Birmingham City star Jay Stansfield is hoping the club go out and complete a new record signing this summer.

Birmingham City are back in the Championship for 2025/26 after winning the third tier at a canter.

The Blues set an EFL and League One record during their promotion-winning season that ended with them garnering 111 points.

Birmingham are predicted to excel in the Championship upon their return, with talk of a play-off finish even being mooted.

Among the stars who should be key to the club’s sucesss in 2025/26 is forward Jay Stansfield.

Jay Stansfield wants Birmingham City to break transfer record

The attacker was signed from Fulham last term, completing a record transfer for sides in League One, which was in excess of £12m.

This price-tag, as expected, has seen Stansfield targeted by rival fans over the course of the last year.

Now, as per Birmingham Mail, the Englishman has been opening up on the struggles he has faced thanks to his high transfer fee.

When doing so, he expressed hope that the Midlands outfit would go out and break their transfer record, so that the attention would be off him.

He said: “I hope we bring someone in who’s worth even more because that takes the weight off my back!

“It’s what happens in football, you get it everywhere. As a young player from last season, with not many people speaking about you, to all of a sudden it’s gone everywhere that a League One team has spent this much money.”

Birmingham City owner comments on breaking transfer record

It’s good news for Stansfield, though, as Birmingham’s owner will break their transfer record on one condition.

In an interview last month, Tom Wagner said: “If we have the headroom, we’ll do it.

“We’ll see. I think at the end of the day, a lot of it is thinking about what do we spend this year versus what we spend in future years? Where’s the talent? What’s the price? Where’s the value?

“All of those are questions that can’t be answered until the window opens, but you know we do have high ambitions and at the same time we will be seeking great value. I think we did an exceptional job with that last summer and I think we’ll do a very good job with it this summer.”

Championship clubs are ‘fearful’ of Birmingham going into the summer, with the club expected to be one of the most aggressive sides in England.
