The Wrexham fan-favourite forward will not play a part in the Red Dragons’ 2025/26 Championship campaign despite playing a pivotal role in the club’s rise up the divisions.
The miraculous rise through English football for Wrexham has led the Welsh giants to the 2025/26 Championship campaign.
Wrexham made history with successive promotions, and the club will be hoping to continue that trend into next season and break their top flight record absence.
As a result, the summer transfer window has seen a plethora of high-profile names linked with a move to the Racecourse Ground, with Ryan Hardie’s arrival from Plymouth Argyle the first through the door.
Following Hardie’s acquisition from relegated Plymouth, fan-favourite forward Paul Mullin will be playing his football away from Wrexham next season.

Paul Mullin sends classy message after joining Wigan Athletic on loan from Wrexham
Wrexham’s rise to footballing prominence is in no small part down to the exploits of the Red Dragons’ cult hero, frontman Mullin.
Since joining the Red Dragons from Cambridge United in the summer of 2021, the Englishman has fired himself to icon status, at the same time as firing Wrexham up the EFL divisions.
Unsurprisingly, Mullin sits at the summit of Wrexham’s top five all time goalscorers, after scoring 105 goals and registering 12 assists in his 165 games for the Red Dragons.
That goal record proves even more spectacular considering that the Englishman joined on a free transfer from Cambridge, therefore does not feature on Wrexham’s most expensive signings of all time list.
Despite his proven goalscoring exploits, injuries and poor form saw Mullin fall out of favour under Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson this season, seeing the 30-year-old score only three League One goals last term.
As a result of being on the sidelines for much of the last second tier season, Mullin has joined Wigan Athletic on loan for the 2025/26 League One campaign under Ryan Lowe.
After the news was announced, the Wrexham icon sent a classy message to the Red Dragons ahead of their 2025/26 Championship campaign, of which he will play no part in.
Mullin said on X: “All the best this season! Keep the train rolling.❤️”
Having dropped divisions to join Wrexham, becoming the club’s top goalscorer to play a pivotal role in their rise from the National League to the Championship, and a Hollywood cameo in Deadpool along the way, Mullin departs the Racecourse Ground with ample appreciation from the club.
The veteran forward showed his class with his show of love for the Red Dragons, despite being shipped out from the 2025/26 second tier squad.
Could Mullin fire the Tics to glory in the third tier next term, as he did for the Red Dragons?

Paul Mullin’s goals record proves he will be a great signing for Wigan Athletic
Despite being Wrexham’s talisman during the first two promotions under Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, injuries and lulls in form limited the forward to just nine League One starts last season.
After his loan was announced, Mullin told Wigan’s media: “I’m excited for the next part of my story.
“The gaffer has outlined his plan for the season, and I’m hoping to take his trust into the season and make it a really successful one.”
Although Mullin faltered last term, his Wrexham hit-rate speaks for itself, and will have the Wigan faithful excited for the season ahead.
| Statistic | Paul Mullin in 24/25 League One | Paul Mullin for Wrexham overall |
| Games | 26 | 165 |
| Goals | 3 | 105 |
| Assists | 0 | 12 |
Mullin concluded: “As a player, I give absolutely everything and work as hard as I can.
“I’ve scored a lot of goals over the last few years, but more than anything, I give my absolute all for the club that I’m playing for, and I’m going to do that again with Wigan.”
The next chapter in Mullin’s unforgettable story comes at third tier Wigan, and he will be hoping to fire the Tics above their 15th-placed finish in the 2024/25 season, and prove he still has a future in the Wrexham ranks.
