Peterborough United winger Kwame Poku emerged as a transfer target for Birmingham City towards the end of last season.
As Birmingham cantered to the League One title in style, Chris Davies earmarked Poku as a wide option in preparation for the Championship, though completing a deal has proven difficult.
The Blues are required to pay compensation for the Ghanaian as he doesn’t turn 24 till August 11, but annoyingly, Peterborough’s director of football Barry Fry slapped a £10 million asking price on Poku.
That fee only applied to clubs in England, though, as the 23-year-old is able to join a club abroad without them paying compensation.
Darragh MacAnthony is now ‘worried’ that Poku will join Rangers, who are interested in capturing the talented wideman for nothing, leaving the Posh in a state of panic.

Birmingham City are assessing other targets after Kwame Poku frustration
EFL Analysis exclusively revealed that Poku is ‘weighing up’ his options ahead of the summer. Rangers are strong contenders to sign the electric winger after hiring Russell Martin as their new boss, while clubs in Belgium, France and Germany are all keen on him.
According to Birmingham Live, the Blues have been left ‘frustrated’ in their pursuit of the Peterborough star and are now assessing other targets.
The Championship newcomers are aware that Poku and his agent are playing the field and searching for the perfect destination this summer.
There are growing concerns that the former Colchester United youngster could eventually decide to move abroad, and with other targets such as Demarai Gray earning ‘staggering’ wages in Saudi Arabia, perhaps they should end their pursuit of both and go for one player whose contract is set to expire.

Birmingham should go all out to sign Tyrhys Dolan
Birmingham are planning an ‘aggressive’ transfer window, with Tom Wagner promising that a war chest of funds will be splashed.
But to assemble a promotion-winning Championship team, clubs need to look at the bargains available, and the ‘outstanding’ Tyrhys Dolan is someone who falls into that category.
Dolan has snubbed a new contract at Blackburn Rovers and is set to leave Ewood Park on a free transfer after an incredible five years at the club.

Middlesbrough have held talks with Dolan, but as it stands, no one has presented him with an offer, and that is where Birmingham should swoop.
The fleet-footed winger has torn apart the second tier for several seasons, amassing 191 appearances in the competition with 26 goals and 22 assists.
Despite being just 23-years-old, Dolan is supremely experienced at the level and can offer Birmingham the dynamite they crave in wide areas.
That is why they should drop their interest in Poku and immediately turn their attention to a proven Championship talent who could fire them into the top six.
