Clarity over the future of Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl could have a positive knock-on effect on the Owls, hopefully keeping one of the German’s favourite players.
Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl is set to stay at the club, with it looking more likely that there will be a takeover of the club in the next few weeks.
The pre-season ahead of the 2025/26 Championship season has been plagued with uncertainty for both players and staff, with Dejphon Chansiri not having the available funds to run the club.
The issues regarding player wages have led to several Sheffield Wednesday players handing in their 15-day notice, whilst some players’ contracts have expired, with there being no immediate prospect of new deals being handed to senior stars.
However, the news of Rohl’s return to the club, with him set to take training at St George’s Park as part of Sheffield Wednesday’s pre-season, could help in the club’s bid to keep hold of one player who will be crucial to the coach’s plans.

Sheffield Wednesday now must keep Barry Bannan after making progress with Danny Rohl
Sheffield Wednesday fans will be feeling slightly more optimistic ahead of the upcoming Championship campaign, knowing that Danny Rohl will stay at the club, whilst Henrik Pedersen has also committed to the club.
Following the news of Rohl’s commitment to the club, Sheffield Wednesday will surely now look towards keeping Barry Bannan in S6.
Bannan has remained with the club for pre-season preparations, despite being out of contract at Sheffield Wednesday.
The Scotsman is keen to stay at Sheffield Wednesday this season, and knowing that Rohl will be the manager this season will make that a much more desirable decision.

Danny Rohl has shown that Barry Bannan is ‘crucial’ to his plans
Due to the current financial situation that Sheffield Wednesday currently find themselves in, there is no doubt that Danny Rohl will be keen to retain as many of the current players as possible.
It is clear that, above all else, Rohl will be adamant that Barry Bannan must be part of his plans at Sheffield Wednesday, especially after what he has previously said about the Scottish playmaker.
Via The Star, Rohl said in pre-season ahead of the 2024/25 season: “He is crucial, really crucial. You have players who see it and want more and more and are always one step ahead. This is good.
“Some players need a little bit more help but what is important is that we are strong as a group. In the defence I speak a lot about coaching from behind and in ball possession we need players who want and need to receive the ball, they coach (offer advice on the field) even if it is a lot of pressure, like against Red Bull (Salzburg).
“You see some of the solutions from Barry in the middle of the pitch and it was outstanding. You need players to understand the game and that is why we try to keep the core of players from last season.”
Sheffield Wednesday are set to be in for a difficult season, making the need to keep Bannan in the camp much more extreme. He will no doubt be integral to Rohl’s plans as he looks to deliver another successful season, despite the financial restraints on the club.
