Keep or sell? Deciding every Leicester City player’s future as Jon Rudkin faces brutal axeing decision

Add as preferred source on Google

Leicester City know their fate and they will be a Championship club next season.

It’s a second relegation in three seasons but this one has been met by even more anger, with Jamie Vardy labelling it an embarrassment.

Many of those who were there for the title-winning 23/24 campaign won’t be here again and it seems like a new manager may also be on the list with Ruud van Nistelrooy expected to depart.

At the centre of the blame is director of football Jon Rudkin – a man fans believe has got several decisions wrong.

He now faces the biggest summer of them all as he’s tasked with rebuilding a squad and offloading players on high wages as the Foxes try to assemble a team ready for the Championship.

EFL Analysis looks at which of those should be kept and which should be sold on.

Keep or sell? Leicester City edition

Goalkeepers

Mads Hermansen – sell

One of the few valuable assets in the side and deserves to stay in the Premier League. Moves on with everyone’s wishes.

Jakub Stolarczyk – Keep

Stepped up in Hermansen’s absence and was in goal the last time the Foxes won again. Would be a great number one in the second tier.

Danny Ward & Daniel Iversen – sell

Both are out of contract this summer and neither one of them will be offered a new deal. High wages off the books and a fresh start.

Defenders

James Justin – Sell

Disastrous season in the full-back slot after looking so positive for a large spell of his Leicester career. Not a bad player overnight but injuries hampered him and probably needs to move onto pastures new.

Woyo Coulibaly – Keep

Joined in January and hasn’t had much game time. Looked solid enough when he’s featured and can expect to play more next season.

Ricardo Pereira – Keep

One of the few players to take account for the season – despite being injured for large parts of it. In the latter stages of his career and won’t attract many offers, plus, he truly cares about the club.

Ben Nelson – Keep

Keep at all costs. The future of this side at centre-back and will be a first-teamer next season.

Harry Souttar – Keep

Harry Souttar was immense on loan for Sheffield United before his season-ending injury. Promotion for the Blades would probably see him return but he has shown he’s good enough for the Championship and can play with Nelson.

Conor Coady – Sell

High wages, latter stages of his career. Hasn’t performed to the expectations expected of him.

Wout Faes – Sell

A walking example of Leicester’s terrible recruitment in recent years. Take the first offer you can and move him on.

Jannik Vestergaard – Sell

Fallen out with three different managers at the club. A bad egg in the dressing room and one that needs to leave.

Victor Kristiansen – Sell

Didn’t stick around for the Championship last time and won’t do again. Will have offers from abroad.

Luke Thomas – Keep

Homegrown talent and proved his worth in the last few weeks. Would be a good defender for Leicester in the league.

Midfielders

Wilfred Ndidi – Sell

Don’t repeat the mistake of last time. On very high wages and injury prone. Heart hasn’t looked in it this season and it’s time to bring an end to the journey – despite him being one of the club’s best players since joining in 2017.

Boubakary Soumare – Sell

Won’t stick around for the Championship. Needs to leave to reduce the wage bill and kickstart his career elsewhere.

Harry Winks – Sell

Crazy to think this would’ve been an option 12 months ago but recent disciplinary issues, coupled with high wages, are grounds to suggest that he’s burnt his bridges with sections of the fanbase.

Hamza Choudhury – Sell

Would be tempting to keep him given that he is one of the better players in the Championship but sometimes you need to move on.

Oliver Skipp – Sell

Will go down as one of the worst signings in Leicester history, pound-for-pound. Whether someone buys him is another question but it may be better to move on and forget this deal ever happened.

Bilal El Khannouss – Sell

Such a shame as this is a reluctant sale. A wonderful player but Bilal El Khannouss’ release clause will put clubs on red alert and he deserves to play at the highest level.

Will Alves – Keep

Like Nelson, is the future of this team. Impressed on loan at Cardiff City and has to play next season.

Stephy Mavididi – Keep

Will be one of the standout players in the Championship and should be kept at all costs.

Abdul Fatawu – Keep

Fatawu has hinted he will stay at Leicester next season and that should be a positive for Leicester and nobody else. Championship defenders beware!

Kasey McAteer – Sell

Broke into the first team last time out but with other clubs sniffing round, including Sunderland back in January, this is an opportunity to recoup the full amount of money due to him being a homegrown talent.

Jordan Ayew – Sell

High wages, 33-years-old, hardly played since the turn of the year. That says it all.

Bobby De Cordova-Reid – Sell

Pretty much the same as Ayew, but slightly younger.

Jeremy Monga – Keep

The biggest task of the summer will be keeping the 15-year-old star boy. He’s had a taste of first team action and would tear up the Championship next season.

Patson Daka – Sell

Had plenty of chances but ultimately hasn’t cut it. Will receive offers from abroad most likely and can see him thriving elsewhere on the continent.

Jake Evans – Keep

The heir to Jamie Vardy’s throne. Watch out for him next season, Jake Evans is another hot prospect from the academy.

Jamie Vardy – Sell

The most painful of them all, but it’s time. Nobody wanted the journey to end like this but Jamie Vardy will never be blamed for what has happened.

Will leave with the blessings of everyone.
