Lewis Travis has perfect motivation vs Wrexham with Derby County statement needed

It’s been an interesting start to life at Derby County for Lewis Travis, and just weeks after joining the club, he has already been made the captain.

John Eustace took the captaincy off Ebou Adams following the international break, handing the armband to a player who led his team while he was at Blackburn Rovers last season.

He has won one of those two games since then, with Travis playing a key role in the Rams’ victory over West Brom a little more than a week ago.

However, Travis knows that Derby have to find improvements in their game after they were beaten 1-0 by Preston North End on Saturday, and his side’s next fixture against Wrexham will be of significant interest to the midfielder.

Lewis Travis will want to show Wrexham why he chose Derby County

The 27-year-old signed a four-year deal with the Rams when he made the switch from Blackburn Rovers earlier in the summer, and he has already made three league appearances.

However, Wrexham showed an interest in Travis in June, as Phil Parkinson looked to add more Championship quality to his squad following promotion from League One.

Nevertheless, Valerien Ismael revealed that Travis wanted to join Derby, and a move to the Red Dragons never came off. Yet, the Rams have had a tough start to the campaign and find themselves in the relegation zone.

Therefore, it is imperative that John Eustace’s side pick up a victory at the Racecourse Ground, with his captain the centre of an underlying plot point in this fixture.

How Lewis Travis has fared at Derby County this season

Travis has been an impressive addition at Pride Park, and while he is just three games into his Rams career, he has already become one of the first names on the team sheet.

A feisty, aggressive competitor, it’s clear to see why Eustace loves the former Ipswich Town loanee so much, and he has made a fine start next to Ebou Adams.

Travis is not the most technical of players, but the work he does off the ball and in leading the team is exemplary and he is constantly communicating with the officials to ensure that his side have someone fighting in their corner.

Derby see the midfielder as a key part of their future, and they will be hoping that Wrexham regret their decision to not poach Travis before the Rams moved in.
