While Sheffield United’s woes continue, things will feel more sour as two former Blades favourites shine with a fellow Championship club.
Sheffield United lost 1-0 to Charlton Athletic, making it six defeats on the spin for the Blades.
While this weekend was meant to be a celebratory homecoming for Chris Wilder at Sheffield United, it was far from it after Nathan Jones’ side clinched a late winner in front of a contingent of Addicks away supporters.
The Blades are still rooted to the foot of the Championship table, having scored one goal in the league.
As Wilder looks amongst his ranks to find a solution to his side’s difficulties in front of goal, things will sting even more after Hull City’s win against Southampton, which showcased two former Sheffield United stars getting on the scoresheet.

Former Sheffield United stars Oli McBurnie and John Lundstram shine for Hull City
In contrast to the poor display in S2, which saw Sheffield United fall to a sixth successive league defeat, former Blades players Oli McBurnie and John Lundstram enjoyed a 3-1 home win against Southampton for Hull City.
Both McBurnie and Lundstram signed for Hull City on free transfers this summer, and the former Blades pair have already hit the ground running, having both scored in the Tigers’ victory.
As a result of their top performance, they were both named in the Championship Team of the Day, according to The Football League Paper.

Chris Wilder will be gutted that Sheffield United missed out on Oli McBurnie
Following Chris Wilder’s return to Sheffield United, it is clear that attackers with a proven goalscoring ability at Championship level are a rare commodity in his side.
During Ruben Selles’ short reign as Sheffield United boss, the Blades were keen on a return for Oli McBurnie, but the Scotsman turned down his former club, as well as Ipswich Town and Swansea City, for a move to Hull City.
Since his arrival in East Yorkshire, McBurnie has scored three goals and notched four assists in just five Championship starts, which is a phenomenal start to the season.
The goalscoring output that McBurnie is providing to Hull City is exactly what Wilder needs in his side which are currently starved of any confidence.
With Tom Cannon continuing to struggle at Sheffield United and Tyrese Campbell failing to hit the heights, it is a difficult situation for Wilder to unravel at Bramall Lane.
