The mood at Sheffield Wednesday is one of contempt and anger as the issues surrounding Dejphon Chansiri’s ownership of the club continue to escalate.
Owls fans have a bleak outlook on the future of their team with the South Yorkshire outfit under a transfer embargo due to Chansiri’s failure to pay players and staff on time in May.
Danny Rohl is not committed to Sheffield Wednesday, and his exit this summer seems to be a near-certainty as a tough Championship campaign awaits the Hillsborough faithful after finishing in mid-table last season.
However, there is one major positive for the Owls, and it involves securing the future of one of their star players for at least another year.
Sheffield Wednesday have done excellently to keep Josh Windass at the club
Josh Windass had an excellent 2024/25 campaign, scoring 13 times for Sheffield Wednesday while becoming the club’s top scorer in the 21st century in the process.

Able to play in a variety of attacking positions, Windass found himself up front, on the wing and in an attacking midfield role with Rohl using his adaptability excellently. His contract was set to expire this summer, but he triggered a one-year extension and his deal will now come to an end in 2026.
This is a huge positive for Sheffield Wednesday, and his manager said back in January just how important he is to the team (via: The Star): “Josh has a good development, I don’t know all of his history, but when I compare it to last year it’s been a huge step forward.
“He can play more minutes, he can score, he helps the team, he can make the difference… I think it shows that we can develop and improve players, and this is fantastic to see.”
Josh Windass’ Owls future is still not guaranteed
Despite putting another year on his contract, the Owls cannot be assured that the 31-year-old will stick around.
Windass called Rohl the best manager that he has ever worked under, but with the German clearly unhappy, there is no guarantee that the club will be able to keep hold of their key players if he departs.
As per Tom Bogert, Brazilian club Santos showed an interest in the former Wigan Athletic man in January, and if an opportunity like that comes about again this summer, it could be hard to turn down.
Windass has stated that he nearly joined West Brom 12 months ago, and Championship clubs will be put on notice if he does look for a move elsewhere.
