John Eustace is looking to add goals to his Derby County team this summer.
After completing his medical two weeks ago, Carlton Morris became the Rams’ first signing of the summer. Meanwhile, the East Midlands outfit are closing in on a £5.8m move for USA striker Patrick Agyemang.
Stu Holden slammed the 24-year-old for his Gold Cup final performance, but Tim Howard is a fan of Agyemang and supporters have every right to get excited about their soon-to-be new forward.
However, Eustace remains keen on bringing in more attacking players, with Josh Windass the latest to be linked with a move to Pride Park, as per The Star. EFL Analysis has taken a look at three reasons why Derby should sign the 31-year-old this summer.
Three reasons why Derby County must sign Josh Windass
Josh Windass has plenty of versatility
It must be said that the Rams lacked depth in multiple positions in 2024/25, and their head coach has already been working hard to fix that issue this summer.

Andreas Weimann and Kenzo Goudmijn will both be competing for the attacking midfield role if Eustace does revert to a 4-2-3-1 formation, Windass could help provide further cover here, while also being able to operate further forward or even out wide if needed.
It’s his versatility that makes the former Wigan Athletic man stand out in the second tier, and he would be the perfect fit at Pride Park.
Derby would benefit from the forward’s goalscoring talents
With Sheffield Wednesday’s three-window transfer ban, they will find it tough to replace Windass – especially after an excellent season last time out.
The 31-year-old scored 13 times in the Championship in 2024/25 in 44 appearances while also registering five assists. He also found the back of the net from his own half against Derby in January and they have first-hand experience of his talents.
If he does move to the East Midlands and has a double-figure return again, then any pursuit would have been worth it for Eustace.

Josh Windass has the experience that John Eustace loves
While Derby do need to lower the average age of their squad, their head coach is a huge fan of having players with plenty of experience in his team.

The likes of Weimann and Danny Batth, who called Eustace ‘outstanding’ following his arrival, are proof that the 45-year-old does not see age as an issue and Windass will fit into the group well.
After years of uncertainty at Hillsborough, the stability that David Clowes has brought to Derby makes them a club which players will be keen to join. The Wednesday forward will appreciate that, and a move to Pride Park just makes sense.
