Three Tottenham players Ryan Mason could sign at West Brom including ‘incredible’ talent

West Brom are on the lookout for a new manager to replace Tony Mowbray after watching their hopes of finishing in the top six crumble.

Mowbray was sacked by West Brom on Monday following his side’s 3-1 defeat to Derby County, marking the end of his short four-month tenure in charge.

It was a loss that effectively ended his side’s Championship play-off hopes, with several managers tipped to replace Mowbray at the Hawthorns.

One of those is promising young coach Ryan Mason, who West Brom have placed on their shortlist and some fans weren’t happy about the links.

Mason is currently an assistant coach at his former club Tottenham, and if he did become the new manager of the Championship side, here are three players he could bring with him.

Dane Scarlett

Jose Mourinho once dubbed striker Dane Scarlett as ‘incredible’ when he broke onto the scene at Tottenham as a 16-year-old in February 2021.

Scarlett has made 21 appearances for Spurs since making his Premier League debut against West Ham, but the England under-20 star has enjoyed his most productive spells elsewhere.

Oxford took the young striker on loan this season, scoring four goals in 20 appearances before being recalled by Ange Postecoglou in January as an intention to loan him elsewhere.

However, the 21-year-old couldn’t find a move before the deadline, frustratingly, and he’s since appeared for just 31 minutes in the top-flight.

Mason will have worked with the youngster closely in the Tottenham academy, and if he becomes the West Brom manager, perhaps Scarlett is someone he could capture on loan.

Wilson Odobert

Wilson Odobert was captured for £25 million from Burnley in the summer transfer window.

The electric winger arrived after impressing at the Clarets, becoming a shining light in a dismal campaign under Vincent Kompany.

Unfortunately, the 20-year-old has missed 27 games through injury this term, seeing his involvement restricted under Postecoglou.

That being said, Odobert has played more frequently in recent weeks, even starting four of the last seven matches in the Premier League.

However, with the prospect of a new manager replacing Postecoglou at Tottenham, his future could be in the air, and Mason taking over at West Brom could see him join on loan.

Admittedly, it would be an ambitious, and perhaps difficult transfer to complete.

Brandon Austin

West Brom are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. Alex Palmer was sold to Ipswich Town in January and there have been problems ever since.

Joe Wildsmith replaced Palmer between the posts, but the 29-year-old cost his side in numerous games with a catalogue of errors.

Wildsmith was axed after his mistake against Sunderland on April 5, and since then, youngster Josh Griffiths has been their number one.

That is why Mason taking over at the Hawthorns makes going for Spurs goalkeeper Brandon Austin all the more plausible.

Austin has only played three senior matches for Tottenham, but during his Premier League debut against Newcastle this season, the 27-year-old was excellent.

Sadly, that was his first and last time appearing in the top-flight, with Postecoglou preferring Guglielmo Vicario and that should open the door for him to exit this summer.
