After the shock sacking of Tony Mowbray on Monday evening, West Brom have been linked with a slew of different managerial candidates, with Ryan Mason the latest.
Just a few weeks ago, West Brom looked destined to secure a play-off berth after a strong run of form under Tony Mowbray.
The Baggies were well-organised, grinding results out when it mattered most. But five defeats in the last six matches have seen the wheels well and truly come off for the play-off candidates.
After the 3-1 defeat to Derby County on Monday, West Brom’s season is well and truly over, and Mowbray paid the ultimate price.
There are plenty of options to replace Mowbray at West Brom, but one name has not got the fans energised at all.

West Brom linked to Ryan Mason and fans aren’t happy
According to Alan Nixon on Patreon, West Brom are now looking at Tottenham Hotspur assistant coach Ryan Mason for the top job as they look to rebuild for next season.
Nixon claims the 33-year-old is on the “wanted list” for the Baggies, but they will have to wait until the end of the season as Spurs’ pursuit of the Europa League would prove to be a “problem.”
It is said West Brom “may be willing to wait” for Mason until the end of the season.
While fans were ‘gutted’ to see Mowbray sacked, it’s safe to say they are even more upset about the links to Mason.
One supporter claimed appointing Mason would be another “disaster” for West Brom, while another said they “don’t want” him, and a third simply said, “God no.”

Ryan Mason has what it takes to flourish at Championship level
As a Tottenham Hotspur fan myself, I can safely say that I’ve seen enough from Ryan Mason to suggest he would absolutely thrive in a top job down in the Championship.
I say that with a bittersweet sentiment, as I would not be happy to see Mason leave Spurs, but it’s definitely time he was given a chance.
In the brief spells he’s had as caretaker manager at Tottenham, Mason has proven he can handle the pressure at the very top level across Premier League and cup action. The fact he stepped in to take charge of the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City in 2021 and only lost 1-0 says a lot about his character and his talent as a coach.
| Statistic | Ryan Mason 2021 | Ryan Mason 2023 |
| Games | 7 | 6 |
| Won | 4 | 2 |
| Drawn | 0 | 1 |
| Lost | 3 | 3 |
| Win % | 57.1 | 33.3 |
He’s young, hungry, experienced, and a very smart, shrewd tactician. It’s only a matter of time before Mason gets a great project to sink his teeth into, and West Brom’s penchant for well-drilled, more traditional football could be the perfect fit for him.
Mason would switch things up a little, with a preference for a 3-4-3 formation, but that would surely be a good thing for West Brom, who desperately need a change of direction.
He would also encourage youth development, and have a great connection base with Tottenham that could see some of the Lilywhites top talent head out on loan to West Brom next season.
Just like another former Spurs man, Chris Davies, who has flourished at Birmingham this season, Mason is a young coach who just needs a little backing and that one opportunity to show what he can do.
