Championship and SPL sides target Wigan Athletic starlet Tobias Brenan
EFL Analysis understands, thanks to information from our Chief Football correspondent Graeme Bailey, that Wigan prospect Tobias Brenan is attracting the attention of several clubs following his breakthrough at the Brick Community Stadium.
EFL Analysis can reveal that a number of Championship clubs are keeping close tabs on Brenan, whilst there are also teams from the SPL.
Brenan joined Wigan’s youth ranks last season from Oxford United, but he has made rapid progress under Lowe, becoming a part of his first team set-up this season.
| Club name | Tobias Brenan appearances |
| Oxford United Under-18s | 5 |
| Wigan Athletic | 6 |
The 19-year-old midfielder is also still featuring for the club’s Under-21 side but has made huge strides, making six senior appearances in all competitions for Wigan so far this season.
EFL Analysis understands that Swansea City, Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End are amongst the Championship clubs to be checking on him, whilst Edinburgh duo Hearts and Hibernian are also watching Brenan’s progress.

Wigan Athletic boss Ryan Lowe rates Tobias Brenan highly
Brenan made his first appearance in senior football for Wigan in their 3-1 win over Northampton Town in the early exchanges, and he took to the task with aplomb.
When Lowe withdrew the youngster on the hour-mark, Brenan was given a standing ovation for his assured and mature performance, which continued his impressive rise.
As quoted by Wigan Today, Lowe said of Brenan: “Tobias should be very proud, and so should his family, he was excellent.
“As you’ll have seen from my time at Bury, Plymouth and Preston, I play the kids if they’re good enough, it doesn’t matter how old they are.
“Tobias has been champing at the bit, I got him in a couple of days ago and told him he’d be starting, and showed him some stuff that he’d been good at.
“He couldn’t stop saying ‘thank you’, and I said ‘don’t be thanking me, you need to thank yourself’, because he’s a lovely kid who just wants to learn.
“And that’s what you get when you’ve got good players and good people like him.
“He can play ‘4’ and ‘8’…and he can probably play numerous other positions as well.”
