Blackburn Rovers seek deal for ‘quality’ Ajax midfielder, he was in the Championship last season

Blackburn Rovers are progressing with their summer transfer business at a relatively quick pace.

Valerien Ismael has already been frustrated by John Eustace twice in July, with both Andreas Weimann and Danny Batth opting to join Derby County instead of staying in Lancashire.

Nevertheless, Rovers have already made signings and they are strengthening in key positions ahead of the 2025/26 Championship campaign, having narrowly missed out on a play-off spot last time out.

Lewis Travis has been linked with a move to Derby this summer, but an official approach is yet to happen and at this moment in time Blackburn still have their captain. However, they may perhaps have found more cover in central midfield.

Blackburn Rovers show interest in Sivert Mannsverk

According to a report from Dutch outlet Voetbal International, Rovers are showing an interest in Ajax midfielder Sivert Mannsverk.

The 23-year-old has struggled for minutes in Amsterdam since leaving Molde FK in September 2023, and he has made just 18 appearances for the Eredivisie giants in the last two years.

15 of those have come in the league for Ajax, but now the Dutch side are looking to offload players who are out-of-favour and Blackburn are keen on sorting a permanent transfer for the Norwegian defensive midfielder.

Sivert Mannsverk has Championship experience

While Mannsverk has not quite had the luck he would have wanted at Ajax, he was able to find game time last season. He joined Cardiff City on loan in January, although he could not help the Bluebirds avoid relegation.

Nevertheless, Omer Riza was pleased with his signing at the time and on the midfielder’s arrival, he said (via: BBC Sport): “He’s very hungry and wants to do well, he’s a good quality player in midfield and is someone that will really add to the squad. Defensively, he is strong and powerful, he’s good in duels and will protect the back four really well. He senses danger and his positioning is good.

“Attacking-wise, he can get himself out of tight situations with his technical ability and can drive forwards with the ball from deep areas, taking players out of the game and allowing us to attack with more players. He’s got good qualities in and out of possession, a strong boy, powerful and a good engine on him. All-round, he’s a very good player who will add to our squad.”

Mannsverk has plenty of potential, and fans of the Football Manager series will be more than aware of his qualities. If Ismael can bring the Norwegian to Ewood Park, then he will have a very capable player with just a month to go until the first Championship fixtures of 2025/26.
