Peterborough United are in the midst of a transfer nightmare, as the League One club continue to face the reality of losing players as free agents.
Hector Kyprianou left for Watford back in May, becoming one of the first signings of the EFL transfer window, while the saga surrounding Kwame Poku is still awaiting a conclusion.
The 2024/25 campaign was a tough one for the Posh, and despite beating Birmingham City in the Vertu Trophy final in April, they finished in a lowly 18th place despite back-to-back play-off finishes in the two previous seasons.
Now, they await the departures of more stars and the future of one of those who has been a key figure at the Weston Homes Stadium looks as though it will be decided in the next couple of weeks.

Championship sides target Ricky-Jade Jones as he prepares for Peterborough United exit
Ricky-Jade Jones scored 10 times in League One last season, playing in every single game for Peterborough in the league campaign.

However, his exit is a near-guarantee this summer as his contract comes to an end and he will be available to other clubs on June 30 – although his next team will have to pay a compensation fee for the striker due to Jones only being 22.
Nevertheless, Barry Fry has explained that a number of sides in the Championship are interested in securing his services for next season. He said (via: Peterborough Times): “I know Ricky has spoken to several Championship clubs.
“But he has not yet made his mind up where he wants to go. Hopefully he will stay in the country and I believe he will.”

Ricky-Jade Jones will be a shrewd signing in the Championship
After a tough 2024/25, Peterborough supporters will be looking forward to a different kind of challenge next season as they prepare for life without the star players who have carried them forward in the last few years.
For Jones, this is the perfect time to depart and after his best-scoring season, he has put himself in the shop window excellently.
| Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|---|
| League One | 46 | 10 | 3 |
| FA Cup | 3 | 4 | 0 |
| Carabao Cup | 1 | 0 | 0 |
| Vertu Trophy | 7 | 3 | 1 |
The Championship is the correct next step for the 22-year-old to take, and while leaving his hometown club will be difficult, there is no doubt that he will go on to brighter things in the second tier after impressing in League One.
However, Jones is also very raw, and with the likes of Danny Ings potentially heading to Wrexham, while young stars such as Birmingham City’s Jay Stansfield prepare for life in the Championship, he will have a lot to prove to find his way in the division.
