Transfer developments at Coventry City’s former Championship foes, Sunderland, could have a positive knock-on effect for Frank Lampard.
Coventry City began their 2025/26 Championship campaign with a goalless draw against Hull City.
Ahead of the game, EFL Analysis exclusively revealed what Frank Lampard has told Coventry chiefs following reports that Newcastle United want Jack Rudoni.
Rudoni played the full 90 minutes against Hull, but was largely ineffective and failed to create any openings for the Sky Blues.
Now, Coventry and Lampard have received an unseen transfer boost regarding one of Rudoni’s teammates, which could see the crucial Sky Blues star stay this window.

Coventry City receive Milan van Ewijk boost as Wolfsburg bid for Trai Hume
Last week, reports emerged that Wolfsburg were pushing to sign Milan van Ewijk and that talks were at an “advanced stage,” according to German reporter Florian Plettenburg on X.
As EFL Analysis exclusively revealed earlier in the window, Coventry want £8m for van Ewijk amid interest from newly promoted Burnley.
Van Ewijk started against Hull and enjoyed an impressive performance in which the Dutch full-back hit the woodwork.
Despite Coventry’s historic rivalry with Sunderland, reports regarding the Black Cats have offered a potential boost in their attempts to retain van Ewijk.
As reporter Ben Jacobs revealed on X: “Wolfsburg have made a £10m bid for Sunderland and Northern Ireland defender Trai Hume.”
Therefore, this could indicate that the German giants are moving on from their pursuit of the Coventry right-back.
Both van Ewijk and Hume were two of the best right-backs in the Championship last season, and it is no surprise that Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg have been interested in them this summer.

What Frank Lampard said about Milan van Ewijk amid play-offs
Last season concluded in heartbreak for Coventry, after defeat across two legs against Sunderland in the Championship play-off semi-finals.
In the first leg, Sunderland won 2-1 thanks to a late winner from Eliezer Mayenda after van Ewijk failed to control a pass which left the Black Cats striker through on goal.
Lampard consoled van Ewijk after his crucial play-off mistake which left the 24-year-old in tears.
Lampard said: “I’ll speak to him. It’s football. He’s been brilliant for us this season. Mistakes happen in football.”
In the second leg, Sunderland scored a 120th-minute winner thanks to a bullet Dan Ballard header, which sent the eventual winners on their way to a Wembley showpiece versus Sheffield United.
Given the historic rivalry between the two clubs, Coventry could finally enact some revenge this summer if Wolfsburg opt for Sunderland full-back Hume over van Ewijk.
