How much QPR will net if Arsenal sign Eberechi Eze as £67.5m asking price set

A sell-on clause is a clever way of pocketing more cash after selling a player, and Queens Park Rangers could be the latest club to benefit from previous savvy negotiations.

In June, Birmingham City pocketed £5.5 million after Sunderland sold Jobe Bellingham to Borussia Dortmund for around £28 million.

Coventry City also received over £4 million after former striker Viktor Gyokeres completed his big-money move to Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Norwich City land an extra £4.5 million to add to their transfer funds if Jonathon Rowe completes a £17 million transfer to Roma from Marseille.

The Canaries aren’t the only Championship club in line for a windfall, with QPR set to secure a decent payday if Eberechi Eze moves on from Crystal Palace.

QPR get 15% of Eberechi Eze’s transfer fee

Eze was once an incredible Championship talent who earned his move to Crystal Palace from QPR in 2020 after netting 20 goals and assisting 12 in 112 appearances for the R’s.

The 27-year-old has since blossomed into a top-level Premier League midfielder and someone now being eyed by Arsenal, among other clubs.

According to The Guardian, Palace have set a £67.5 million asking price, including add-ons, to sell their prized asset.

The good news for QPR is that they hold a 15% sell-on clause as part of the original £19.5m deal that took him from Loftus Road to Selhurst Park five years ago.

With the Gunners poised to swoop for the attacking midfielder, Eze’s former club QPR will receive a whopping £10 million of the £67.5 million fee.

That could be huge for the club this summer in their quest to challenge for the Championship play-offs, with Julien Stephan already impressing supporters.

QPR played a crucial role in Eze’s development

While Eze could become a superstar at Arsenal alongside the likes of Bukayo Saka and Gyokeres, the Englishman never forgets his roots.

After facing rejection throughout the early stages of his career, Eze credits QPR as the team that ‘understood’ him and allowed him to showcase his talent.

“I met people at QPR who saw me and understood what I could do,” he told BBC Sport in May after Palace’s FA Cup win. “It was a journey getting there – so many clubs, so many rejections.”

Eze credited technical director Chris Ramsey, coaches Andy Impey and Paul Hall, and former QPR forward Les Ferdinand with helping with his development and building up his confidence at Loftus Road.

“I’m hugely grateful for them because that was the changing point in my career, and my belief shifted because of them,” adds Eze.

“They opened my eyes. They taught me it can’t just be nutmegs. They improved me massively, they saw potential in me. It was just about bringing it out.”
