Ipswich Town are poised for a busy end to the summer transfer window, with their latest target being a Uruguayan international.
Ipswich Town are backed by many Championship supporters as title favourites for the 2025/26 season, but to achieve that feat, Kieran McKenna will be keen to get their first win on the board.
Ipswich were held to a 1-1 draw by Birmingham City in the Championship curtain-raiser, and similarly drew with Southampton last weekend.
Preston North End host the Tractor Boys on Saturday as McKenna’s side continue to be involved in several transfer deals.

With deadline day less than two weeks away, Ipswich are looking to bolster their backline by targeting a Uruguayan international.

Ipswich Town bid for Club América defender Sebastian Caceres
Ipswich have already added several impressive signings to their squad this summer, namely with the arrivals of Chuba Akpom and Azor Matusiwa.
Business at Portman Road continues to ramp up, as EFL Analysis exclusively revealed that Ipswich are ‘pushing hard’ to sign Sindre Walle Egeli for £17.2m ahead of a “host of Premier League clubs”.
After Hayden Hackney snubbed the Tractor Boys’ offer, midfield attention has turned to an ambitious move for a Premier League talent, with Ipswich competing with Sheffield United for Phillip Billing.
Furthermore, McKenna is scouting for recruits to bolster his backline, and Ipswich have now “made a formal bid” for Uruguayan centre-back Sebastian Caceres.
Fabrizio Romano revealed on X: “Understand Ipswich Town have sent a formal bid to Club América for Sebastian Caceres. No agreement yet but talks ongoing after bid from Spartak Moscow was rejected.”
Caceres’ market value is reported by reputable source, Transfermarkt, to be in the region of £4.3m.
The 26-year-old would be another quality addition to the central defensive ranks after Ipswich, with Cedric Kipre already arriving on loan.

Former Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa is a big fan of Sebastian Caceres
After making his debut in 2022, Caceres has notched 20 international caps for Uruguay under former Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa.
Central defender Caceres has become a regular figure in Bielsa’s Uruguay side after performing consistently well at Club America, one of the Argentinian manager’s former clubs.
As quoted by Latin US, Caceres said of Bielsa: “He always tells me I’m on one of the most important and popular teams in the world.
| Team name | Sebastian Caceres appearances |
| Liverpool FC Montevideo | 64 |
| Club America | 173 |
| Uruguay national team | 20 |
“He doesn’t measure what I do here as if it were any other team, because playing under pressure every weekend isn’t for every player, and not every team gives you that pressure.
“Here in America, if you don’t win a game, it’s sometimes a scandal. It’s important to him that his players perform under pressure at a high level in a good league; he views the Mexican League very favorably.
“He’s one of the most respected coaches in the world. He sees football in a way that someone who watches football every day might not, because he’s a genius in that sense.”
