Ipswich Town set to miss another midfield target as £5m man decides to return to homeland

Ipswich Town are taking a little bit more time to click than many would have thought this season.

Supporters were looking forward to their Championship return, but so far it’s not been the easiest of starts for the Tractor Boys, with Preston North End inflicting defeat on the Suffolk outfit on Saturday.

Milutin Osmajic scored from the penalty spot for the Lilywhites in the 11th minute at Deepdale, as Kieran McKenna’s side continue their hunt for three points in the Championship following two draws from their first two games.

However, a midfielder is needed at Portman Road, and while AFC Bournemouth looked to have the answer to their problems, Ipswich look to have been beaten to one key target.

Ipswich Town set to miss out on deal for Phillip Billing

The Tractor Boys have been showing an interest in Phillip Billing, but according to Mark McAdam, their plans to bring in the Premier League ace have been overtaken.

Danish side FC Midtjylland are in ‘advanced talks’ with Bournemouth over a deal for the midfielder, with the report stating that a fee of £5m is being discussed by the two clubs.

Billing, who is from Denmark himself, is keen on a move back to his home nation and Ipswich look as though they are going to miss out on the 29-year-old.

Bournemouth want to move the ex-Huddersfield Town man on this summer with wages being one of the main reasons behind a transfer.

The Tractor Boys have just over a week to find their midfielder

It’s been an odd transfer window for Ipswich, and while they have kept hold of some key stars, the likes of Omari Hutchinson, Liam Delap and Nathan Broadhead have all moved on.

The latter is perhaps proving to be the most frustrating for McKenna given where we are at in the summer, and there is just over a week to go until deadline day.

Ipswich have no issues with keeping hold of the ball, as they proved against Preston. However, they also need someone who can unlock defences from deep on a consistent basis.

The Tractor Boys did not table an offer for Billing in the end, and they will have to act quickly to get their midfield star.
