Norwich City know that keeping hold of Josh Sargent will be incredibly tough this summer, after they failed in their bid for play-off football in the 2024/25 campaign.

Johannes Hoff Thorup, who turned down QPR on Monday, was sacked by the Canaries back in April and they are now awaiting the imminent arrival of Liam Manning from Bristol City.

With Borja Sainz also being targeted, the transfer window could be a tough one for the Norfolk outfit. However, their owners have given the incoming Manning a strong transfer budget to help rebuild the squad after a 13th place finish.

Nevertheless, there is new interest in Sargent, and with the calibre of the club that are taking a look at the American, Norwich may find it tough to deny the striker a move if an approach is made.

Despite missing 14 Championship games in the 2024/25 season, Sargent finished fourth in the race for the golden boot, with Joel Piroe taking the trophy.

Therefore, it is not a surprise to see one of Europe’s most historically rich clubs in Roma show an interest in the 25-year-old, with Gianluca Di Marzio reporting that they are keeping a keen eye on the striker this summer.

Premier League winner Claudio Ranieri was in charge of the Italian giants, and he helped transform their season after a poor start. However, the former Leicester City boss has entered retirement once again after helping his hometown club and there is now a hunt for a new manager.

Nevertheless, with European football on the cards in the form of the Europa League, Sargent may just be keen on a move to the continent this summer with his exit looking a certainty in the coming months.

This summer is set to be a busy one for Liam Manning

Next season’s Championship campaign is set to be ultra-competitive, and Norwich will be looking to challenge for a place in the top six.

However, they may find it tough if they do not bring in quality replacements for Sainz and Sargent, with the two responsible for 33 of the 71 goals that the Canaries scored in the second tier over the course of the last 10 months.

Norwich have already made their first signing, and they are now closing in on a deal to bring Daniel Grimshaw to the club. While this is a good start, Roma’s interest in their number nine does threaten to derail their strong opening to the transfer window and Manning must be given the chance to replace him.
