Scottish Premier League side Hibs “tried their best” to sign Dykes on loan from the Blues towards the end of the transfer window.
Birmingham City brought several high-profile recruits to St Andrew’s in the late stages of the summer window, namely with the Blues’ loan signing of Patrick Roberts from Sunderland.
As well as incomings, multiple marquee Birmingham figures moved on ahead of the 2025/26 season, including Krystian Bielik and Alfie May.
With Roberts and Jack Robinson arriving on deadline day, discussions remained ongoing after reports emerged that Lyndon Dykes was in talks with Hibernian over a loan move on deadline day.
Now, the out of favour Blues forward has revealed why the move north of the border fell through.

Birmingham City’s Lyndon Dykes comments on failed Hibernian loan move
The 43-capped Scottish international played a small role in Birmingham’s promotion last season, scoring just one goal and notching one assist in 25 League One outings.
Already this season, Dykes has equalled his league goal return from last term after his dramatic winner against Blackburn Rovers in the eighth minute of added time.
Birmingham co-owner Tom Brady praised Dykes’ finish, which could have been his final goal for the Blues this season if his prospective loan switch to Hibs did not fall through.
Amid the international break, Dykes has commented on the failed move and his personal hopes for the rest of the season at St Andrew’s.
Dykes told Sky Sports: “I’m a Birmingham player, there was talk there, looking obviously to go on a loan.
“Hibs tried to do their best but it didn’t end up happening, and that’s just the way it happens.
“Always, wherever I’ve been, I give it 100 per cent, and I train the best I can every day. Everyone knows what I can bring
“I’m a Birmingham player, and I’ll fight and hopefully have a good season.”
Although Dykes is intent on fighting for his place under Chris Davies, it could prove to be a thankless task for the senior striker.

Lyndon Dykes will need to fight for minutes at Birmingham City
As a result of Birmingham’s business, head coach Davies has a plethora of quality options to choose from at centre-forward.
Jay Stansfield and summer signing Kyogo Furuhashi have been his preferred striking partners thus far, with Marvin Ducksch still to make his first start for the Blues since arriving from Werder Bremen.

May’s move from Birmingham to Huddersfield Town offers Dykes some hope of game time, but the aforementioned trio are far ahead of the 29-year-old in Davies’ pecking order.
Dykes’ winning goal in his nine-minute cameo at Blackburn proved he still has merit to be in the Blues squad, but a return to the negotiation table with Hibs could come in January if he continues to spend most of his time on the bench.
