Max Lowe could join an exclusive club featuring Peter Shilton if he makes Leicester City move

Leicester City are still technically managerless with the new Championship season less than four weeks away.

Marti Cifuentes is set to take charge of the Foxes, just three months after he was placed on gardening leave by QPR and he has plenty of work to do to get the team ready for life back in the second tier.

Fans fumed as players wore training kits in a pre-season friendly at the start of July, and with the off-field situation at the King Power Stadium uncertain, signings are needed as a distraction.

There are fears about the future of left-back Victor Kristiansen, and Leicester may need to find a new star if the Dane does decide to move on and a replacement may have been identified.

Leicester City show interest in Max Lowe

On Sunday, it was reported by Alan Nixon that the Foxes are targeting Harry Toffolo at left-back, and just 24 hours later another name has appeared on that list in the form of Max Lowe.

According to Alex Crook, Leicester are one of several Championship sides taking note of his current situation at Sheffield Wednesday, with players free to leave from tomorrow if they are not paid by the end of play on Monday (14 July).

Preston North End also like Lowe, but after relegation from the Premier League last season, the East Midlands outfit may well be involved in the fight at the top of the second tier in 2025/26.

The 28-year-old has promotion experience in the past with both Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest, but it is another statistic that would make a move even more interesting.

Max Lowe could be one of few players to have played for the three biggest East Midlands clubs

Lowe started his career at Derby County, but he found himself in and out of the team throughout the years as Craig Forsyth locked down the left-back position at Pride Park.

He left the Rams in 2020, joining Sheffield United with Jayden Bogle and he soon got his first taste of Premier League football. However, he was perhaps not at the level, with a loan to Nottingham Forest seeing him play regular minutes again.

The defender is now linked with a move back to the East Midlands, and if he does join Leicester, he would become the first player since Jesse Lingard to have played for the three biggest sides in the area.

It’s a very exclusive list, with England great Peter Shilton also completing the trifecta, while fellow goalkeeper Russell Hoult also did it in the 1990s and 2000s. Nevertheless, with Sheffield Wednesday and United on his CV, it’s clear that Lowe is keen on staying close to his home county of Derbyshire.
