Millwall are one of the dark horses in the Championship this season, and they are proving themselves in the opening weeks of 2025/26.
While a 3-0 home defeat to Middlesbrough earlier in August was not the best display of their powers, the Lions inflicted further damage on Sheffield United at the weekend with a 1-0 win at Bramall Lane.

However, Japhet Tanganga has now moved to the Blades for £10m, leaving Alex Neil without his star centre-back, so a replacement must now be found.
Nevertheless, Millwall have already played their hand in finding a new defender, and they have been in negotiations with West Brom over a young, exciting talent.

Millwall close in on signing of Caleb Taylor from West Brom
Tanganga has been the subject of Sheffield United interest for the last couple of weeks, and with just days to go in the summer transfer window, he has finally made the move.

But this leaves Millwall weak at the back, and therefore it will not come as a surprise to see the South London club making their own moves in the market.
According to Dan Marsh, Baggies defender Caleb Taylor is set for a medical with the Lions soon, with the two clubs finalising the details of a permanent move for the 22-year-old.
Chris Mepham is set to join West Brom from AFC Bournemouth, and this will pave the way for Taylor to make his way to The Den as three different Championship clubs prepare for a potentially new defensive look this weekend.

Will Caleb Taylor be a starter for the Lions?
West Brom are preparing to lose Darnell Furlong to Ipswich Town, and there is plenty of movement going on in the Championship as we close in on deadline day.
However, Taylor is not exactly a player who was going to be a starter every week at The Hawthorns, especially with Mepham on the way.

The ex-Wycombe Wanderers loanee has only featured once so far this season for the Baggies, with that appearance coming against Derby County in the Carabao Cup first round. Therefore, there will be questions as to whether the centre-back is ready for first team action at Millwall.
Yet, he has plenty of potential and Taylor would thrive in this Alex Neil team, with a huge focus on physicality and old-fashioned defending – something that he experienced plenty of under Mike Dodds at Wycombe.
