Norwich City aiming to beat Celtic to signature of ‘teenage sensation’ ahead of transfer deadline day

Norwich City have been one of the busiest teams in the transfer market this summer, but Liam Manning seemingly still wants to sign more players before deadline day.

After parting ways with Johannes Hoff Thorup towards the end of last season, Norwich City took their time to find the right man to replace him and landed on Norfolk native Liam Manning.

We’ve already seen Manning add 11 new Norwich City signings this summer, and yet the Canaries have struggled to start the season in the manner expected.

After a home defeat to Middlesbrough over the weekend, it looks like Norwich are keen to get back into the market and sign at least one more player, although this target wouldn’t necessarily impact the immediate future of the first-team squad.

Norwich City eye up Vinnie Leonard

According to transfer expert Pete O’Rourke, Norwich are “battling it out” with Scottish giants Celtic to land the signature of “teenage sensation” Vinnie Leonard before the window closes.

The young Irish starlet is currently plying his trade for second tier side Dundalk FC, but the 17-year-old is seemingly set for bigger things very soon with the two clubs chasing him.

Leonard has already made 28 league appearances for Dundalk, missing just one game this term. He’s bagged two goals and two assists along the way, all from his central defensive berth.

He may only be a teenager, but with an imposing frame and a physical style of play, it’s thought the youngster can make the transition to a higher level of football soon enough.

Liam Manning has more immediate problems at Norwich City

After an inconsistent and disappointing start to the season, Norwich are nowhere near the levels anyone would have predicted before the campaign began.

In our Championship preview for 2025/26, we had Norwich pegged as promotion candidates, but they’ve looked miles off that so far.

Still, with so many new players coming in and a new manager trying to instil his style of play, it would always take some time for that to take shape.

There are other teams in the Championship today who will be far more worried after their results, and with so much of the season to go, Norwich still have plenty of time to get back on track.
