Norwich City poised to win race for Pape Diallo as Metz offer huge clue regarding his future

Norwich City have been making waves in the summer transfer window.

Liam Manning has plenty to spend after he swapped Bristol City for the Canaries, and his team are quickly becoming a dark horse for promotion.

While Borja Sainz has left for Porto and Josh Sargent is set to join Wolfsburg, there are plenty of reasons to be positive at Carrow Road with replacements being found quickly for the pair who tried to fire the Norfolk outfit to a top-six finish last season.

Supporters are excited to see Mathias Kvistgaarden, and now the player to fill the void left by Sainz has been found, with a deal close to being completed.

Norwich City set to sign Pape Diallo

Watford had come close to signing Pape Diallo earlier in July, with the Metz winger having a medical at the club. However, Luca Bedoni has explained that Norwich are closing in on signing the 21-year-old.

He has been left out of Metz’s pre-season camp in Belgium and it is now seemingly a matter of when, not if, the Senegal international makes his way to Carrow Road.

Watford are still monitoring his situation, but their desire for another winger has calmed, after Nestory Irankunda joined the Hornets from Bayern Munich at the end of last week.

With just over two weeks to go until the first Championship fixtures of the season, transfers will be coming thick and fast, with Diallo set to be the next player through the door at Norwich.

Liam Manning is building an exciting squad

Losing players like Sainz and Sargent is always going to be tough to take, but Manning is being extremely smart with his business this summer.

Operating in markets outside of England is always a risk, but fees tend to be lower due to a lack of competition between clubs and that factor of the unknown makes every move feel a little bit more exciting.

Norwich have plenty of quality in their squad already, but Diallo can be the key to unlocking their attacking power once again in 2025/26 and a top-six finish is well and truly on the cards in Norfolk.
