Hull City boss Sergej Jakirovic has confirmed that two new arrivals are imminent at the MKM Stadium as he offers a Brandon Williams update.

Hull City held Coventry City to a draw on the opening day of the 2025/26 Championship season; a result that new boss Sergej Jakirovic will be satisfied with.

Following the tie, Hull City fans praised the defensive display from the side, especially from full-back Cody Drameh.

It is a positive sign for Hull City to be able to compete with Frank Lampard’s Coventry City after a difficult summer of uncertainty due to a transfer fee restriction.

Whilst Hull are still under such restrictions, owner Acun Ilicali and Jared Dublin, the Head of Recruitment, have continued to add players to Jakirovic’s side, and the Tigers boss has confirmed the imminent arrivals of two more.

Hull City boss Sergej Jakirovic gives update on Brandon Williams and David Akintola

Following the respectable draw away at the CBS Arena, Hull City coach Sergej Jakirovic faced the media, where he gave an important update on incomings at the MKM Stadium.

Speaking to Mike White, Jakirovic gave insight on where the club were at with a deal to bring Brandon Williams to the club after his brief trial period.

“I think he (had) today his medical check and he will be our player…tomorrow he will train with us,” said Jakirovic.

As well as Williams, Jakirovic also confirmed that David Akintola is close to a move to the MKM Stadium.

“Maybe we are waiting on his medical (results) because it’s the weekend. I think from Monday he will be registered with us and he can be in the team.”

Brandon Williams deal proves Acun Ilicali’s point

Whilst Hull City may have had an upper hand in the pursuit of Brandon Williams, the former Man United and Ipswich Town man still had plenty of offers from elsewhere.

With the option of going abroad, or to an alternative Championship side, like Oli McBurnie, the full-back has decided that the MKM Stadium is his favoured destination.

Via the Hull City website, owner Acun Ilicali discussed the success in bringing their targets to the club, where he wrote: “Have you ever wondered why our new players chose to join Hull City? The answer is simple: our existing players are genuinely happy to be part of this family, and their positive feedback speaks volumes about their experiences here. But do you know the real reason they are happy?

“It’s because of us.

“It’s your unwavering support and the love you show them that makes them feel at home. And as a management team, the care and attention we give them ensure they stay happy, motivated, and committed to being a part of our family for the long term.”

There is a positive atmosphere around the club, in spite of the issues that have been faced, and that has had a brilliant knock-on effect on recruitment this summer.
