The transfer window may be closed but that’s not stopping Hull City lining up new signings, with one player already set to join the club in the summer of 2026.
It’s been a strange summer for Hull City in many ways, with a shock transfer ban being imposed on the Tigers amid financial difficulties.
They were still able to do some good business, though, with 13 new Hull City signings walking through the door on loan deals or free transfers.
Despite initial fears that Sergej Jakirovic could have a short tenure at Hull and that the club would face relegation, there are now hopes they can stay up. And it seems the manager firmly believes that as he’s already getting transfers arranged for next summer.

Luis Fernando Carrero to join Hull City in 2026
Just last week, Jakirovic called for the transfer window to close earlier. Now, he and the Hull City recruitment team are making moves outside the window.
Reporter Rudy Galetti previously mentioned Luis Fernando Carrero as a target for Hull, with a plan being formulated to send him to sister club Maribor in Slovenia. That first report was a week ago, and it seems significant progress has now been made.
Galetti wrote: “Luis Fernando Carrero is on his way to Maribor to finalise his move from Deportivo Tachira: contract signing set for tomorrow. Plan is for him to stay in Slovenia until June and to join Hull City, a club within the same group, next season.”
The 18-year-old has caught the eye in the Venezuelan league and has been making solid progress with the Under-20 squad at international level this summer.
Predominantly an attacking midfielder, Carrero can also play on the left or a little deeper, and will be hoping to make an impact with Maribor ahead of his big move to England next summer.

Hull City must resolve transfer issues by next summer
Hull’s transfer restrictions stemmed from failed and/or late payments for past transfers, but chairman Acun Ilicali has been fairly calm about the situation, insisting it will not be a long-term problem.
The initial three-window ban on transfer fees was reduced to two windows after an appeal. That would prevent Hull making any deals in January and in the summer of 2026, but with the ownership group also including Maribor, loopholes can be found to get Carrero to the Tigers.
Of course, as the situation at Hull improves off the field, they will hope that the EFL will further reduce those sanctions. There are still problems for Ilicali to solve at Hull, but there is clearly optimism that it will not impact the club significantly in the future.
