Swansea City must not lose hope in the battle for highly sought-after striker, Hull City have failed before

It’s an exciting time to be a Swansea City fan and this summer will be something of an unknown to those in South Wales.

Luka Modric is a minority shareholder at the Swans, and supporters are hoping that this means the club can bring in a higher quality of player in the transfer window as Alan Sheehan prepares for his first full season as the permanent head coach.

Luke Williams was sacked in February after a torrid run of form saw his now former club slide down towards the relegation scrap, before their interim-turned-permanent boss helped push them back up to mid-table.

Nevertheless, signings are needed at the Swansea.com Stadium, and after showing an interest in bringing Lewis O’Brien back to Wales, Swansea are keen on the return of another former star – but there is a catch.

Hull City lead the race for Oli McBurnie, Swansea City have work to do

Oli McBurnie looks destined to leave Las Palmas after just one year with the Spanish club, and there are plenty of sides in the Championship and La Liga who are keen on signing the striker.

Birmingham City want to find a partner for Jay Stansfield, while Sheffield United are interested in McBurnie returning to Bramall Lane. However, there is a frontrunner in the race for the 29-year-old.

The Hull Daily Mail have reported that Hull City are leading the battle for the Scotland international amid a host of interest from elsewhere.

However, Swansea remain keen on bringing McBurnie back to the club who gave him his first taste of Premier League football.

Hull City have failed in their pursuit of strikers in the past

Despite the Tigers believing that they are closing in on the signing of the forward, the East Yorkshire outfit have been in a similar position previously.

In last summer’s transfer window, Hull had agreed a deal with AFC Bournemouth for Kieffer Moore, but a last minute U-turn saw the experienced striker make the switch to Sheffield United instead.

Swansea must be aware of this situation and they cannot afford to give up in their hunt for McBurnie. His experience will be crucial up front next season, and with Jerry Yates likely to leave the Swans, cover is needed in that position.
