After their incredible 2024/25 summer transfer window, it’s been a strong start to this year’s window for Birmingham City on their return to the Championship.
Blues had a record-breaking campaign in League One and Chris Davies will be hoping that he can continue the positive trend that his team are on.
Birmingham must sign Kwame Poku this summer, and adding to their attacking front is crucial if they want to avoid a fight against relegation and push towards the top half of the table.
However, following a strong campaign for record-signing Jay Stansfield, there are question marks as to how Birmingham proceed with their strikers next season. But, they may have a solution to this problem sooner rather than later.

Birmingham City enter the race for Oli McBurnie
Bringing in Championship experience is crucial for any team that has come up from League One, with Wrexham interested in Barry Bannan. Similarly, Blues are now targeting Oli McBurnie, as per a report from Alan Nixon.

Sheffield United have also shown an interest in McBurnie, as the striker continues to be linked with a move back to England following a spell in Spain with Las Palmas.
Nixon said: “Birmingham City are coming in over the top of rivals with a top cash offer for striker Oli McBurnie.
“Blues are keen to offer the Scottish hit man the best terms going as he leaves Spanish side Las Palmas on a free after relegation from La Liga. Hull and Swansea are also trying, while McBurnie would still like to stay in Spain with Celta Vigo.”

Signing Oli McBurnie would help ease pressure on Jay Stansfield
Stansfield wants Birmingham to break their record transfer fee this summer, and there will be plenty of pressure on him to perform in the Championship.
He scored 19 goals in League One in 2024/25, with his prowess from the penalty spot shining through after making a permanent move to St. Andrew’s for a fee that BBC Sport reported to be over £10m.
McBurnie, while he has never been overly prolific, does know where the goal is and will provide a threat in the final third for Birmingham.
His experience will also prove crucial, with the Scotland international having played in both the Premier League and Championship – something that will help Stansfield in his development in the next few years.
