West Brom have become incredibly busy in the transfer market in the last week, announcing several incomings and departures, with their latest interest being in a Liverpool gem.

Ryan Mason has recently issued a hands-off warning to clubs interested in signing West Brom’s ‘outstanding’ talent, Mikey Johnston.

While they have lost defender Torbjorn Heggem to Bologna for £10 million, the club acted quickly to bring in his replacement from Birmingham City.

The latest piece of business done by the club was the loan move for Toby Collyer from Manchester United, beating Hull City to the signing of the England underage star.

However, the two clubs look to be doing battle for another player once again and face tough competition to acquire an individual currently contracted to another club in England with 20 top-flight titles, Liverpool.

West Brom and Hull City are interested in James Mc’Connell

James McConnell has been linked with a move away from Liverpool all summer, be that on a loan deal, with the player being linked heavily to a Swansea City transfer.

However, it never came to pass, and now the player has been linked with a move away once again, with Hull City looking to secure a loan deal due to their two-transfer window ban, while West Brom want to add depth to their midfield.

The Athletic have reported that the Championship clubs will have to beat Sturm Graz to the signature of McConnell, as the Austrian Bundesliga champions want to add depth for their campaigns in Europe and in attempting to defend their title.

It remains to be seen if James McConnell will leave the club, as moves for the player broke down previously; however, Liverpool appear determined for the player to get first-team experience.

Jurgen Klopp was a huge fan of James McConnell

Jurgen Klopp saw a lot of promise in James McConnell while in charge of Liverpool, while Arne Slot remains impressed by the starlet.

The German manager was the man to give McConnell his first opportunity in a Liverpool shirt, making his Premier League debut off the bench for Liverpool in November 2023, as they beat Brentford at Anfield.

Klopp was full of praise for the midfielder after his performance against Leicester in a pre-season friendly against Leicester City in July 2023, as reported by This is Anfield.

He said: “James in the six is just a joy to watch; the boy never played in that position before. We put him there, and he throws his heart on the pitch.”
