Alex Neil searches for Millwall ‘remedy’ as the Lions prepare for Watford battle

Millwall have flattered to deceive so far this season in the Championship, and their inconsistency has been a major issue for Alex Neil.

The Lions headed into the 2025/26 campaign as one of the dark horses for a play-off spot, but five games in, they are currently sitting 16th in the league table.

Neil could drop Mihailo Ivanovic for Macaulay Langstaff as the head coach looks to break one particular duck on Monday evening.

The South London outfit host Watford at The Den to close out this weekend’s Championship action, and while EFL Analysis has predicted a draw at Millwall, the home side will be doing all they can to pick up a vital three points.

Alex Neil opens up on frustrating Millwall home form

A victory for the Lions will see them climb into the top half of the table, but there may be concerns about their form at The Den.

Millwall have won twice in the league this season, but both of those victories have come on the road, and they are yet to score in front of their own supporters. Nevertheless, Neil is not overly concerned.

He said (via: Southwark News): “We beat Coventry in the cup. I know it’s not a league game, but we’ve only played two league games at home.

“We had ample opportunity against Middlesbrough in the first half. We had two really good chances, we hit the inside of the post, we had one cleared off the line, we should score. Then to be fair, in the last 30 minutes they were better.

“Then against Wrexham, I felt as if we should have won the game. We just didn’t have enough quality when key moments came along. We want to remedy that as quickly as we can. We want to get the first win in the league at home on the board, and that’s a good opportunity for us to do that.”

The teams with the worst home records in the Championship

Millwall are one of five sides to have started the new season by losing all of their home games so far, while three other clubs are yet to pick up a victory.

After starting the campaign with six straight defeats, Sheffield United are second bottom in the home form table. However, the Lions have not enjoyed playing on their own patch either, with both Middlesbrough and Wrexham registering clean sheets in SE16.

Although it has been a tough start for Millwall at home, Watford are yet to taste victory on the road, picking up just one point from their two away games so far in 2025/26.

This is a great opportunity for the Lions to end their poor run at The Den, and Neil will be keen to show the rest of the Championship his side’s play-off credentials.
