Sheffield Wednesday captain Barry Bannan has doubled down on his criticism of Dejphon Chansiri with his latest cameo on TalkSPORT.

Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri has sparked mass unrest in S6.

While the Owls managed their first Championship win of the 2025/26 season last weekend, things still look bleak at Hillsborough Stadium, with Barry Bannan the latest to speak out about Chansiri.

Chansiri has been criticised by Bannan for the difficulties around players’ and staff’s wages being missed in a recent podcast appearance.

After a scathing overview of what Sheffield Wednesday staff have had to deal with, Bannan has continued to speak out about the mismanagement of the club under the stewardship of Chansiri, this time on TalkSPORT, where he has reflected on one ‘mental’ reality of the situation.

Barry Bannan gives up on Dejphon Chansiri as he outlines ‘mental’ Sheffield Wednesday situation

On Thursday morning, Barry Bannan spoke on the radio, giving yet more insight into the difficulties Sheffield Wednesday have faced in recent months, with plenty of the blame being pointed towards Dejphon Chansiri.

After discussing the issues that both Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United have faced at the start of the season on the pitch, he then reflected on the off-field concerns plaguing the Owls.

When asked if he has been in contact with Chansiri recently regarding the issues at the club, Bannan said: “I have been through this summer and through preseason asking questions, questions, questions, but it’s got to the point now where really I’ve had to stop asking because I’m not getting anywhere.

“I’m just concentrating on the football and trying to keep the lads together and happy, and the manager is obviously doing a great job.

“I remember speaking to one of my mates yesterday, and I was saying ‘you should never be getting to MPay day at a Championship club and wondering if you’re gonna get paid or not’.

“It’s mental.”

As Sheffield Wednesday players’ and staff’s next set of wages looms, there is uncertainty as to whether they will be paid.

Barry Bannan has shown selflessness in speaking out against Dejphon Chansiri

We often see club fanbases turn on football owners, but the situation at Sheffield Wednesday is far more drastic.

The fanbase has been divided for some time, but it now feels as though the large majority are against Dejphon Chansiri’s ownership.

The key factor that undermines Chansiri is when those with a position of power speak about him, and that is what Barry Bannan has done.

At a time when Sheffield Wednesday fans are fearing that they could be left without a club, Bannan has arguably put his future on the line by speaking out about his current employer, with the hope that the situation can be overturned eventually by a change of ownership.
