A remarkable campaign in League One saw Birmingham City clinch the title at a canter, yet they’ve still been snubbed by one accolade.
Birmingham broke the EFL points record in the third tier, amassing a whopping 111 to seal the title and write their name into the history books.
Chris Davies’ men were expected to dominate the division after smashing the League One transfer record to sign Jay Stansfield last summer, alongside a host of other players.
One of those was defender Christoph Klarer, who enjoyed an outstanding campaign in defence for Birmingham with an impressive 20 clean sheets in 43 appearances.
However, when the EFL awards were announced last month, Klarer was snubbed for a Player of the Season nomination when many felt he should have won it, and now the rest of his teammates have also been ignored by one accolade.

No Birmingham City players were named in the WhoScored League One Team of the Season
On Wednesday, WhoScored posted their League One Team of the Season on X, and it featured players such as Reading midfield maestro Lewis Wing and Barnsley attacker Davis Keillor-Dunn.
But to the shock of EFL fans across the globe, there was no place for any Birmingham player, despite boasting individuals who had incredible campaigns and contributed to their record-breaking year.
While fans directed their anger towards WhoScored, the Blues official X account replied with something hilarious.
‘First shock we’ve had all season seeing this’ was written, seeing the humour in none of their players featuring in the team while making light of how easy they’ve sauntered to the title.
One Shrewsbury Town fan did point out that Birmingham were ‘shocked’ when they secured a 3-2 win in November 2024, but as they were relegated to League Two in 24th position, that comment carried zero weight.
Birmingham City are already shocking the Championship
Ahead of the summer transfer window, Blues supporters are excited about their chances in the second-tier as they aim to follow in the footsteps of Ipswich Town who sealed back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League.
Birmingham will have an ‘aggressive’ transfer window. That has already been proven by the signing of Hannover 96 defender Phil Neumann, who will join once the window opens, and how close they are to capturing Kwame Poku.
Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has given Birmingham City the green light to sign Poku, with the club hopeful he can become one of their marquee additions.
With Birmingham’s massive wage bill and their appetite to break more transfer records this summer, don’t be surprised if they are challenging for promotion in 2025/26.
