Blackburn Rovers eye £2m former Bolton Wanderers ace, ‘contact’ has been made with Bundesliga club

It seems that all Blackburn Rovers have done this summer is sell players, but they’re now aiming to bring in a new man before transfer deadline day.

Ever since Valerien Ismael took over at Blackburn Rovers last season, there have arguably been more negatives than positives for the Ewood Park outfit.

While a decent run of results in the back end of last term saw Rovers push for a play-off spot, they’ve endured a rough summer with plenty of Blackburn Rovers outgoings weakening Ismael’s squad.

While the Lancashire outfit finally got their season up and running with an impressive win away at Hull City this weekend, there’s still plenty of work to do in the market if they are to be competitive this term.

Blackburn Rovers want to tempt Dapo Afolayan back to England

Clearly, Ismael needs more quality and depth in his squad, and that’s where Dapo Afolayan comes in. As per a report from Alan Nixon on Patreon, Rovers are keen to sign the 27-year-old before deadline day.

The former West Ham youth star, who previously spent time at Oldham Athletic, Mansfield Town, and Bolton Wanderers, has been plying his trade in Germany since January 2023 with St. Pauli.

Now, Blackburn want to bring Afolayan back to England and have been told they could sign him for around £2m, despite him still being a regular starter for the Bundesliga side.

Adding further details, Nixon claimed, “There’s been contact over the past couple of weeks… [Blackburn] need to be sure the player fancies it too.”

By the sounds of it, St. Pauli are open to the deal, but whether the player wants to make the move to the Championship or not remains to be seen.

Blackburn Rovers desperately need reinforcements

So far this summer, Blackburn have lost four very important players, with Callum Brittain, Andi Weimann, Danny Batth, and Tyrhys Dolan all moving on.

They also look set to lose Lewis Travis to Derby County, as well, leaving Ismael with plenty of work to be done in the final days of the window.

Arguably, Rovers need another central defender, another central midfielder, and someone like Afolayan to add creativity to the wings. A new, proven goalscorer wouldn’t go amiss either.
