Amid all the chaos at Sheffield Wednesday this summer, Danny Rohl’s exit was one of the more turbulent situations, but is Henrik Pedersen the right man to replace him?
It seems simultaneously too late and also too early to be really digging into this question, but at Sheffield Wednesday, nothing is ever certain.
Henrik Pedersen stepped up to take over from Rohl after serving as his assistant, and it’s safe to say the players are right behind their new manager.
The same can’t be said for Owls legend Carlton Palmer, though. In fact, the former Wednesday man has gone as far as to suggest that Pedersen should never have been given the job at all.

Carlton Palmer can’t believe Henrik Pedersen is in charge
Speaking to The Sun newspaper (published 24th August 2025), Palmer made big claims about Dejphon Chansiri and the financial situation at Sheffield Wednesday. But, he also commented on Pedersen’s position, too.
He said: “The whole departure of Danny Rohl was ridiculous. The fact that Henrik Pedersen is in charge now is crazy in my opinion. Managers and assistants work together and when the manager goes the assistant does, too.
“The priority is staying in the Championship, but with a points deduction pending that could make it even worse.”
The thing is, given how the relationship between Rohl and the players broke down, and the level of commitment shown by Pedersen to return to training and sign a new contract despite not being paid at the time, it was always obvious he would be given the job.
To caveat Palmer’s claims, assistant managers often take over from their superiors when change happens at a club. In fact, when Palmer left his role as manager at Grantham, it was his assistant, Dennis Greene, who was put in charge.

So far, so good for Henrik Pedersen and Sheffield Wednesday
All things considered, it’s really hard to throw any criticism at Pedersen for the job he’s done in the early days of his Sheffield Wednesday tenure.
With a threadbare Owls squad, Pedersen and his players have shown immense spirit and desire to leave everything out on the pitch. They may not have got the best results, but no one can fault their effort.
The draw against Wrexham was a clear sign that Sheffield Wednesday will not go down without a fight this season. Whatever happens, the fans will get behind that attitude more than anything else.
Whether appointing Pedersen was crazy or not, it certainly looks like the right decision as things stand, and could be an absolute masterstroke come the end of the season if the Owls achieve the impossible and stay up.
