Coventry City have been tipped to finish in the Championship’s top two after their impressive start to the season.
Frank Lampard’s side sit sixth in the second tier after five games, scoring 15 goals largely thanks to a 7-1 demolition job on Queens Park Rangers.
That was one of two wins they’ve managed in the league this season, with the second coming against Derby County in another high scoring affair. The Sky Blues came from behind to win that clash 5-3.
Many fans thought Lampard’s side would be up there at the end of the season, considering they reached the play-off semi-finals last term. However, one Championship expert thinks Coventry look like they’re going to surpass last term’s achievement.

Championship expert moves Coventry City from sixth to top two in season prediction
The Second Tier Podcast’s hosts Ryan Dilks and Justin Peach discussed whether they would change any of their pre-season league table predictions after the opening five games.
Co-host Justin Peach said: “The team I am going to throw in is Coventry. We had them in sixth. I’m thinking maybe a top two push.
“I know I’ve mentioned their squad depth already, that’s the thing that does worry me a little bit. But then their attacking numbers are insane. They’re miles ahead of everybody on shots, on xG. Defensively there’s a nice balance as well.
“The only risk they have, as I mentioned, is squad depth, and I think in terms of teams really setting the world alight for the first few games, Southampton will take a bit longer to get going, the more games that pass with them the more question marks I have. I think Coventry have got the right formula to push for a top two place in these first five games.
“Of course five games is not enough to form a proper opinion on, but they’re very good habits they’ve developed.”
Dilks went on to agree that Coventry’s squad is the best outside of those who dropped down from the Premier League, and the contract news of one star in the squad will be great news for Lampard.
Jack Rudoni contract signing will be a huge boost for Coventry City
Coventry midfielder Rudoni is set to sign a new bumper contract according to talkSPORT.
EFL Analysis exclusively revealed that Lampard told Coventry chiefs to keep Rudoni at all costs after he was linked with a Premier League move to Newcastle United.
In 57 games he’s fired in 12 goals and grabbed 14 assists, making a huge impact since signing from Huddersfield Town in 2024.

If Coventry do want to push for automatic promotion, Rudoni will be key to that.
