It’s been quite the 48 hours for Sheffield United, with Ruben Selles now out of a job and Chris Wilder seemingly the successor at Bramall Lane.
It’s been just a few months since Wilder was sacked by the Blades, but an immediate return to S2 is imminent after a devastating 5-0 defeat to Ipswich Town on Friday evening saw Selles lose his job.
The South Yorkshire outfit are propping up the Championship table after five games, having lost every single one of those matches, scoring just one goal in the process, conceding 12 times.

COH Sports have had a difficult first year as owners of Sheffield United, and after a mixed bag in the two transfer windows, plus the disappointment of Selles’ tenure, they may well turn back to a familiar face for some guidance.
COH Sports open talks with Prince Abdullah over shock Sheffield United return
Prince Abdullah sold the Blades to the club’s American owners back in December, but he knows Bramall Lane like the back of his hand and oversaw a successful decade in South Yorkshire.

Now, he could be on his way back to Sheffield United, with The Star reporting that chief executive Stephen Bettis met the Prince during the international break and the topic of conversation was about a potential return.
This may well be in an advisory role, although there is also the possibility that he gets involved financially once again as a minority stakeholder.
However, nothing is set in stone at this moment in time and there is no guarantee that Prince Abdullah will return to Sheffield United despite this meeting.

Are COH Sports being reactive rather than proactive?
There is no hiding behind the fact that this has been a disastrous start to the campaign, and COH Sports will be feeling a huge amount of embarrassment about how Selles’ time at the club went.
Questions have to be asked as to whether the decision to move Wilder on, something that supporters were against, was a reactionary move following the play-off final defeat.

Once again, the owners of Sheffield United have had to make a reaction decision in sacking Selles, and maybe their attempt to get Prince Abdullah back on board is a sign of the club stabilising in their decision-making approach.
Wilder will give stability on the pitch, and that will give confidence to fans like Joe Root, who has made jokes about Sheffield Wednesday’s plight. Now, the soon-to-be returning Blades boss must be protected by those who have already handed him his P45 once.
