One Hull City player has been tipped to overcome his woes from last season and become a star player for Sergej Jakirovic’s side.
Hull City are preparing for the 2025/26 Championship season, where they will hope for a significant improvement under Sergej Jakirovic.
The Tigers only just side-stepped relegation to League One last season after Ruben Selles helped Hull to a draw on the final day.
Last season was a write-off in the opening months after Tim Walter lost the dressing room, and it was clear that several Hull players were off the pace.
One defender in particular struggled last term; however, a recent friendly win against Stockport County suggests that he may be returning to his best.

Hull City fans think Ryan Giles can revive Tigers career following Stockport County showing
Despite the off-field issues at Hull City, there have been several impressive performances in pre-season under Sergej Jakirovic.
Several Hull City youngsters have proven their worth, whilst defender Ryan Giles has also shown promise upon his return from Middlesbrough on loan.
Giles endured a challenging 2024/25 season, where he was made surplus to requirements at Hull, before returning to Middlesbrough, where he continued to struggle defensively.
Thankfully, he has shown signs of returning to his best after he set up Mason Burstow with a brilliantly hit cross to head home against League One side Stockport County. Giles’ strengths lie in his attacking capabilities, whether it is stretching play on the left flank, or hitting inch-perfect crosses into the box for forwards.
If he can improve the defensive side of his game, he can certainly return to being one of the Championship’s top full-backs.
What Hull City fans are saying about Ryan Giles
Following the 1-0 win against Stockport County, Hull City fans took to social media to praise Ryan Giles.
On X, one supporter wrote that he had ‘been impressed by him so far in pre season’ and that it is ‘hopefully a redemption season for him’.
He was then lauded as a ‘class player’ who looks set to endure a ‘comeback season’.
One other fan then wrote: “Well played today, this season can really be good for him.
“He’s not had the best football over the past season or two and the big Boro reunion didn’t go as planned but he’s still our player and just needs belief and support.”
Hopefully, Sergej Jakirovic can place his faith in Giles this summer and is handed that support, which could be the difference between him returning to his top form or not.
