Lee Carsley has been considered by Leicester City to replace Ruud van Nistelrooy, but he is now set to take charge of the Young Lions in Slovakia.

The opening day saw hosts Slovakia bested 3-2 in their first fixture against the aforementioned Spain.

England, meanwhile, have been drawn in Group B alongside the Czech Republic, Germany and Slovenia.

Carsley’s men kick off their tournament at 8pm BST on June 12 against Czech Republic at DAC Stadion before meetings with Germany and Slovenia in the coming days.

Middlesbrough ace Hayden Hackney could leave the Teessiders this summer amid interest from several Premier League sides.

The Englishman enjoyed a prolific 2024/25 despite Boro’s overall woes and will have a key role for the Young Lions this month.

Samuel Iling-Junior, who joined the North East outfit on loan in the second half of last season, is also set to link back up with Hackney in Slovakia.

Recently-promoted stars such as Sunderland’s Jobe Bellingham and CJ Egan-Riley have made the cut.

Meanwhile, Birmingham City’s record signing Jay Stansfield has been called up as well.

In-demand Middlesbrough and Southampton stars to feature

As well as Hackney, Middlesbrough’s Rav van den Berg is representing his country at the U21 European Championships.

Van den Berg’s future at Boro is uncertain, and if he performs well in Slovakia for the Netherlands, his price tag may increase.

Elsewhere, Southampton’s Mateus Fernandes, who is wanted by Leeds, will represent Portugal.
