Leeds United supporters were able to celebrate an incredible day of Championship action, which ultimately ended in the best way possible.

On Monday afternoon, Leeds United thrashed Stoke City 6-0 to move a step closer to the Premier League as Joel Piroe’s four goals saw him create history.

Daniel Farke even bettered Marcello Bielsa’s points tally of 93 in the second tier, as that win over Stoke moved Leeds onto 94.

The Whites did their job at Elland Road in style and knew that a Burnley victory over promotion rivals Sheffield United would seal their return to the top-flight at the second time of asking.

Luckily, a Josh Brownhill brace against the Blades was enough for celebrations to start, as Burnley and Leeds booked their place in the Premier League.

An intriguing Championship promotion battle was set to go down to the wire but Sheffield United hit a rough patch of form at the wrong time, seeing them drop off the pace.

There was a rivalry created between the three teams, with Scott Parker, Farke and Chris Wilder all battling for the ultimate prize for promotion.

However, everyone associated with the Whites was hoping for a Burnley victory over the Blades, knowing it would seal their return to the big time.

Of course, a narrow 2-1 win was what the doctor ordered in West Yorkshire, and journalist Beren Cross pointed out that he could hear the Leeds players cheering in the dressing room after Brownhill scored his first of the evening.

After Leeds were beaten in the play-off final against Southampton in 2023/24, there was both relief and delight at Elland Road as a thrilling Championship campaign so far has ended in the best possible way.

Ethan Ampadu reacts to Leeds winning promotion

Leeds supporters and players will be celebrating long into the night after returning to the Premier League, and that includes defensive midfielder Ethan Ampadu.

Ampadu, who is a key player for Farke, has suffered a frustrating campaign, missing a total 21 matches with two separate knee injuries.

Although he didn’t play as much as he would have liked, the 24-year-old was still lost for words at full-time as he spoke to Sky Sports.

“Very proud. A lot of positivity. We still have another target but we will enjoy this tonight. Then we will try and do the full thing,” Ampadu said.

“We didn’t know what was going to happen. This is a little boost but we have two more games.

“I can’t sum it up. A lot of waiting around but it has gone our way. Really enjoyable moment.

“Burnley probably are too [winning the title]. Hopefully today gives us a big boost. Two more to go, let’s try and do it. We will enjoy today.”

The Welshman returned to training at the end of March and Leeds fans will be excited for him to be available once more, especially now promotion is sealed.
