Journalist names player who will be a ‘big miss’ for Hull City vs Portsmouth, he offered something ‘crucial’

One Hull City star could be a massive miss for the Tigers as they face Portsmouth on the final day.

Hull City face Portsmouth on the final day of the 2024/25 Championship season.

The state of play means that Hull City need a win on the final day to avoid relegation, regardless of results elsewhere, but a draw could be enough, providing that either Preston North End, Luton Town, or Derby County suffer defeat, with the latter needing a two-goal swing because of goal difference.

Hull have been told to go all out vs Portsmouth as they fight for their lives in the relegation scrap, especially against a Pompey side that has nothing to play for on the final day of the Championship campaign.

Unfortunately for Ruben Selles, his side have suffered one injury issue ahead of the game, one that could see Hull City lack ‘energy and dynamism’ as a result.

Hull City told the price of losing Regan Slater to injury ahead of the Portsmouth clash

The latest injury news for Hull City is that Regan Slater will be out for their trip to Portsmouth on the Championship final day after he was replaced in the prior game against Derby County.

Prior to his injury against Derby, Hull City showed a real intent going forward, and were no doubt on the front foot, but his forced substitution turned the game in favour of John Eustace’s side.

Hull City have been told, via X, by Baz Cooper just how much of a miss Slater will be for the Tigers in the centre of the park.

“Personally believe Regan Slater is a really big miss for Hull City. His energy and dynamism would have been crucial at Fratton Park. Wish him well in his recovery.”

The midfield Ruben Selles will likely deploy amid Regan Slater injury concerns

The injury dealt to Slater, as Cooper states, will no doubt be a big blow for Hull City in their most crucial game of the 2024/25 Championship season, with relegation on the line.

Fortunately, Hull do have a wealth of options in the midfield to choose from, and it could lead to Selles making an unconventional choice by deploying both Gustavo Puerta and Steven Alzate.

The Colombian pair rarely play alongside each other, and are usually interchanged to be alongside Slater, but his injury could no doubt see the pair play together.

Due to the fact that Hull need to be on the front foot straight away, the forward-thinking pairing of Alzate and Puerta would be crucial for the Tigers to create chances from the off.
