Leicester City drop hint over Ruud van Nistelrooy’s future as manager with pre-Wolves update

Leicester City have just done something that hints Ruud van Nistelrooy will be staying on as manager for the time being.

Leicester City dominated the 2023/24 Championship under the guidance of Enzo Maresca, but it has all been downhill since then.

Maresca left for Chelsea last summer and was replaced by Steve Cooper in the King Power Stadium dugout.

Cooper lasted just 12 Premier League games in charge, winning two, before he was sacked and replaced by Ruud van Nistelrooy.

It’s been a harrowing stint in the Midlands for the Dutchman, with Leicester relegated to the Championship this past weekend following defeat to soon-to-be champions, Liverpool.

Leicester City drop Ruud van Nistelrooy future hint

Following their return to the second tier, Leicester fans were furious, taking aim at anyone they could to vent their anger.

Jamie Vardy was unhappy as well and shared his feelings on the situation in a social media post.

Meanwhile, it has been suggested that Lee Carsley could replace Van Nistelrooy in the dugout once 2025/26 rolls around.

However, a recent update from the club suggests the former Manchester United striker isn’t going anywhere for the time being.

As per talkSPORT’s Jason Bourne, Leicester have just sent out a media invite for Ruud’s pre-Wolves press conference, seemingly suggesting he will still be in charge for that meeting on April 26.

He wrote: “It appears Ruud van Nistelrooy is staying on as Leicester manager, for Wolves on Saturday at least. The club has just sent out a media invite for his regular pre-match press conference on Thursday.”

What Ruud van Nistelrooy has said about Leicester City future

It remains to be seen if the ex-number nine will still be at the helm come August 2025.

Van Nistelrooy briefly spoke about his long-term future after the club’s relegation was confirmed but didn’t give too much away.

Speaking live to Sky Sports post-Liverpool, he said: “I’m focused on taking my responsibility to do the best things for the future and next season.

“Performances like Brighton and the Liverpool game are signs that the players are willing to do that.

“We have to take responsibility and that’s what I’m doing for the next five weeks and after that we have to see.”
