We have been well and truly spoiled this Easter weekend thanks to a double-header of fixtures in the second tier, and as we look at the state of play in the Championship today, there are some exciting stories to sink your teeth into.
It all started on Good Friday, with Luton Town winning the lunchtime kick-off against fellow relegation battlers Derby County, a result Matt Bloomfield described as ‘immense’.
Later that day, wins for Leeds United, Burnley, and Sheffield United set up the thrilling prospect of the promotion race being decided at Turf Moor with the Clarets taking on the Blades on Monday evening.
Matchday 43
Derby County 0-1 Luton Town
Blackburn Rovers 4-1 Millwall
Stoke City 2-0 Sheffield Wednesday
Norwich City 3-5 Portsmouth
Swansea 1-0 Hull City
Bristol City 2-1 Sunderland
Watford 1-2 Burnley
Middlesbrough 2-1 Plymouth Argyle
Coventry City 2-0 West Brom
Preston 1-2 QPR
Sheffield United 2-0 Cardiff City
Oxford United 0-1 Leeds United
Elsewhere, more teams confirmed their place in the 2025/26 Championship roster, with the likes of Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich City reaching a status of limbo in midtable after poor results.
On Monday, a stunning swing of results added extra tension to the Championship relegation battle, with Plymouth Argyle remaining in the fight, and Derby getting back on track.
We even had managerial departures over the weekend, with Omer Riza getting sacked by Cardiff, and Tony Mowbray parting ways with West Brom.
It’s all been going on this weekend, with more to digest than ever, but we’ve got it all wrapped up in a neat nutshell for you with our report on the Championship today.

Leeds and Burnley secure top two spots in Championship
The big news from the second tier is that both Leeds United and Burnley have secured promotion via the automatic places.
Leeds trounced Stoke 6-0 at Elland Road earlier on Monday, with Joel Piroe scoring four goals to secure the three points that all-but confirmed promotion for the Whites.
Then, that evening, Burnley won the battle at Turf Moor against Sheffield United, with Scott Parker winning his third promotion from the Championship.
Josh Brownhill was the star of the show, with the Burnley skipper bagging two goals to quell the threat of the Blades and get the Clarets over the line.
Now, all eyes will be on the final two games for these two powerhouses to see which team will clinch the Championship title come the end of the season.

Leicester City are officially relegated
In the Premier League, we saw Leicester City officially confirm their relegation with defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.
The writing has been on the wall for the Foxes for a few months now, but it doesn’t make the drop any less painful for fans of the club, of course.
Star man Jamie Vardy shared an honest message with fans, admitting it has been a ‘miserable’ season for everyone involved.
Ruud van Nistelrooy is likely to leave, players will probably follow, financial issues are looming behind the scenes; it could be a pretty dire season Leicester in 2025/26.

Every team in the play-off places lost on Monday
Bizarrely, not one single team from third placed Sheffield United down to seventh placed Middlesbrough managed to secure a win on Monday.
We already discussed Sheffield United falling short against Burnley, while Sunderland registered yet another dour defeat at the hands of Blackburn Rovers.
Bristol City fell to a shock defeat at the hands of Luton Town, who maintained their great home record against the Robins.
Matchday 44
Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 Middlesbrough
Leeds United 6-0 Stoke City
Luton Town 3-1 Bristol City
Millwall 3-1 Norwich City
Sunderland 0-1 Blackburn Rovers
Portsmouth 1-0 Watford
QPR 1-2 Swansea
Plymouth Argyle 3-1 Coventry City
West Brom 1-3 Derby County
Cardiff 1-1 Oxford United
Hull City 2-1 Preston North End
Burnley 2-1 Sheffield United
Coventry suffered a similar fate against Plymouth Argyle, while Middlesbrough lost it late on against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.
Does anyone want to actually be in the play-offs? It doesn’t look like it.

Championship relegation fight is impossible to predict
While no team appears to want to stay in the top six, it seems every team at the bottom is clinging on for dear life and giving it everything they’ve got to stay up this season.
The relegation mini league we’ve got going on down there is absolutely enthralling stuff, and there were wins for four of the bottom five teams on Monday.
As we mentioned before, Plymouth stormed to a 3-1 win at home to Frank Lampard’s Coventry side and Luton did the same against Bristol City.
Derby dismantled West Brom, leading fans to label the Baggies as ‘useless’. Tony Mowbray was sacked just a couple of hours later.

Hull saved their skins with a dramatic turnaround in the second half against Preston, after looking set to drop into the bottom three when they fell behind at home to the Lancashire club.
Cardiff were the only team to drop points in the relegation fight, drawing 1-1 against Oxford United.
With two games to go, the relegation fight is impossible to predict, with all five teams down there having a great chance of staying up. Indeed, just one win could make all the difference now, and we can’t wait to see it all unfold.
