Derby County have finally confirmed that they have signed Lewis Travis from Blackburn Rovers, less than a week before the transfer deadline.
The Rams’ pursuit of the former Blackburn Rovers captain had become a transfer saga in the end; however, it was expected that Travis would be leaving Ewood Park this summer.
Valerien Ismael made his feelings clear on what he thought of Lewis Travis following Blackburn’s victory over Hull City at the weekend.
Blackburn had already signed Travis’ replacement ahead of their fixture with Hull City, indicating to many that the deal for the former captain was imminent.
While the signing of Moussa Baradji may have brought some excitement to the Blackburn Rovers fans, particularly when they had a hand in helping sign him, there was also the decision to make Todd Cantwell captain of the club.
Lewis Travis’ heartfelt message to Blackburn Rovers
The Blackburn Rovers social media account posted a highlight reel of their former captain, as he has now left the club to join Derby County.
Travis spoke across the video and reminisced about his time at the club and his love for Blackburn and thanked the fans for their support.
He said: “To all of the Rovers fans, never did I think whenever I first signed for the club at 17 would I go on to make over 250 appearances for the club and lead the side on so many occasions.
“There have been plenty of highs and lows over the past decade, but the good times far outweigh the tough ones, and my memories from my time at Ewood will stay with me forever.
“I couldn’t have done it without the support and guidance of the people at the academy, the coaches at the STC, my friends and family at home, my teammates and most of all the fans, who have always been by my side as one of your own.
“To have the honour of captaining the club will always be something I will be immensely grateful for and hugely proud of.
“It is time for a new chapter in my career, but Rovers will always hold a special place in my heart, and I will continue to support from afar.
“I wish everyone nothing but the best for the future.”
