Derby County continued to haunt Blackburn Rovers after confirming Owen Beck as their latest addition of the summer transfer window.

The Liverpool youngster spent last season on loan at Blackburn and became a huge fan favourite under the guidance of John Eustace.

So, naturally, after raiding Rovers for players during this summer, it only felt right that Derby beat Wrexham to Beck’s signature.

The 22-year-old made 24 appearances in the Championship last term, scoring once, and Eustace has already offered his excitement about Beck’s arrival.

Now, after penning a contract extension at Liverpool, the flying full back has outlined his main ambition for the 2025/26 campaign.

Owen Beck wants to add more goals and assists to his game

As a young player, there are always areas to improve, and in his interview with Rams TV, Beck accepted that he needs to add more goals and assists to his game.

Setting the above as his ‘main target’ for the season, the Wrexham-born defender said: “I think the main thing is doing my job going forward and defensively. I’d say they’re both as important as each other. Defensively, I like to win my 1v1 duels and always come out on top.

“Going forward, I like to get goals and assists. That’ll be one of my main targets this year, to make sure I succeed in that area. It’s definitely somewhere where I feel like I can improve on from last year.”

Beck only registered one goal involvement in the second tier, but as an attacking left-back, he realises that his numbers in the final third have to increase.

Derby fans will be excited about that prospect, knowing they’ve signed a promising defender whose willingness to improve and take on feedback is unwavering.

Beck says joining Derby was a ‘no-brainer’

During his time at Blackburn, the Liverpool loanee built up a strong connection with Eustace, who believes Beck has a ‘huge future in the game’.

But even though many were tipping Beck to join Wrexham, including EFL expert Ali Maxwell, when the Rams came calling, the left-back admitted that moving to Pride Park was a ‘no-brainer’.

“We built a really good connection,” the Welshman said of Eustace. “I feel like he got the best out of me. When he called up and we had that conversation again where he was looking to bring me in, it was a no-brainer, really!

“I enjoyed playing under him. As I said, I feel like he got the best out of me. I feel like he can get even more out of me this season, and I can push that step further.”

Beck becomes Derby’s sixth signing of what has been a promising window so far as Eustace aims to drag his side towards mid-table.
