Sheffield Wednesday fans are ‘heartbroken’ after what Danny Rohl did at full-time vs Hull, they think ‘the end’ is nigh

Sheffield Wednesday’s season appears to be over after their defeat to Hull City on Saturday, but something far more serious could be brewing when it comes to Danny Rohl’s future at the club.

A last-minute winner for Hull condemned Sheffield Wednesday to their fifth defeat in the last eight games, and is likely to be the final nail in the coffin when it comes to the Owls’ faint play-off hopes this season.

Danny Rohl’s men are now 13th in the Championship table, with 52 points, eight adrift of Bristol City in sixth place with just six games to go.

But, Wednesday fans are not really that concerned with the state of play in the Championship today; they are far more worried about their manager and what the future holds for the club as a whole.

Danny Rohl cuts a despondent figure at Hillsborough

The Sheffield Wednesday manager, and indeed the fans, have had a very difficult week. As have the Owls players, who haven’t been paid for March due to a cashflow issue for chairman, Dejphon Chansiri.

At the full-time whistle at Hillsborough on Saturday, all those issues appeared to weigh heavy on Rohl, who trudged around the pitch with his head down for most of his short journey from the centre circle back to the dressing room.

Taking to Twitter/X to share the footage of Rohl’s despondent post-match actions, one Wednesday fan wrote: “I’m heartbroken.”

Another said, “That’s sad to see,” while a third added, “Chansiri has actually broken him.”

Elsewhere, one Owls supporter wrote: “Same old story on the pitch. Same Chansiri disaster off it… One of the oldest clubs in England being destroyed by a Thai billionaire’s kid.”

Many now suspect Rohl will leave the club. It has been suggested for a while that Rohl is likely to move on, but the latest mess appears to have made it all the more obvious what will happen.

One fan said, “He’s had enough of empty promises and nothing by Dejphon Chansiri,” while another added, “He leaves with no bad feelings from me. Right man, wrong owner. With the right backing this guy would get us to the Premier League. He has a bright career in front of him.”

Another simply suggested this looks like “the end” of Rohl’s patience and indeed his tenure in S6.

In truth, Danny Rohl deserves better

It’s truly incredible what Rohl has achieved with Sheffield Wednesday, given everything he has had to deal with from Chansiri.

This is now the second time within a year that the chairman has failed to pay the players, which is beyond unacceptable, and Wednesday now face severe punishments as a result, including a three-window transfer embargo.

In his post-match interview with Football Heaven, Rohl said he “will never forget these players,” which to us, sounds like he won’t be working with them much longer. That’s a crying shame for the Owls, though, with the team making so much progress in the last two years with limited resources.

Chansiri has been told he has to sell the club after the mess he’s caused, but that simply isn’t going to happen. Given the latest developments, it would be a ‘miracle’ if anyone bought Sheffield Wednesday, and an even bigger one if Rohl were still in charge come the start of next season.

Rohl will now no doubt move on to bigger and better things, with Southampton, Leicester City, and RB Leipzig all thought to be keen on the young German coach. Wherever he goes, we’re sure he will be very successful indeed.
