Sheffield Wednesday and owner Dejphon Chansiri have been charged for alleged breaches of regulations by the EFL.
Although Sheffield Wednesday finished the 2024/25 Championship campaign comfortably safe from the drop zone, their post-season fortunes have been anything but stable.
Owls owner Dejphon Chansiri failed to pay his Sheffield Wednesday players and staff in March, but managed to pay on time to dodge potential punishments.
However, after Chansiri failed to pay his players and staff in May, Wednesday have been placed under an embargo by the EFL, and some club staff have had to take up emergency funding to make ends meet until the issue is resolved.
Despite the turmoil in the boardroom, one Sheffield Wednesday star has provided some rare positive news this week, after making an honest admission over his footballing future amid the summer transfer window.

Pierce Charles ‘really happy’ at Sheffield Wednesday amid summer transfer window
In some welcome news for Sheffield Wednesday supporters, goalkeeper starlet Pierce Charles has made an honest admission over his footballing future, amid interest from Premier League clubs in his signature.
Earlier this year, EFL Analysis exclusively revealed that Spurs were among the Premier League sides looking at Charles, after his impressive rise to become Wednesday’s number one.
The 19-year-old shot-stopper, who is already a full Northern Ireland international, became the first-choice keeper under Danny Rohl towards the end of the campaign having only made his senior Owls debut in March.
A host of top flight clubs are tracking the Manchester City academy graduate, and we understand that they are looking at Charles, intending to secure his signature and loan him back to Hillsborough for the 2025/26 season.
Amid the interest in his services, Charles has admitted he is happy at Wednesday. He told the Belfast Telegraph: “I don’t really pay any heed to it (transfer interest). If it comes round, it comes round.
“I’m so happy at Sheffield Wednesday right now. There’s nothing that could make me leave at this point. I’m playing and I’m really happy there.”
Whether Rohl remains as Owls boss next season, or does depart the club as expected, Sheffield Wednesday will be reluctant to see the goalkeeper, who Rohl hailed as “incredible”, depart this summer.

Sheffield Wednesday EFL saga could impact Pierce Charles’ future
Player sales at Sheffield Wednesday could stimulate the cashflow issues this summer, such as the recent transfer of Caelan-Kole Cadamarteri to Manchester City.
The current embargo means that the Owls are prohibited from paying a fee for any player throughout the window, and that embargo could stretch to a three-window ban if the unpaid wages are not sorted soon by Chansiri.
As with Cadamarteri, the Owls could be more inclined to sell Charles amid the Premier League interest, to refill the club’s financial coffers.

On the other hand, given loanee James Beadle’s return to Brighton and expected loan to Birmingham City for next season, it could pave the way for Charles to become the club’s number one for the duration of next season given their inability to buy players.
Either way, Charles has cemented himself as one of the best young goalkeepers in the EFL, and is poised to build on his breakout campaign next season, but it remains to be seen whether that will be at Sheffield Wednesday or one of the interested top flight parties.
