Nothing is going right for Sheffield Wednesday right now, and fans are having to deal with what feels like a new blow every single day.
There are still Sheffield Wednesday players waiting to be paid for May, which is astounding really given we are now more than halfway through June.
Those issues led to the club being hit with an initial transfer embargo, and the Owls have now been given a three-window transfer ban where they cannot pay a fee to sign any players.
Dejphon Chansiri is at the heart of all of this, and it’s safe to say fans are not happy with the Sheffield Wednesday chairman. Now, they’ve been given even more reason to want him gone.

One more problem to add to the list for Sheffield Wednesday
While the situation regarding the wages and the general financial state of the club is a big concern, it’s not necessarily something that directly impacts the day-to-day life of the fans.
However, the club has now made a very unpopular decision that will affect plenty of supporters, particularly the younger fans, and it’s been branded a ‘pathetic’ move.
Every summer, Sheffield Wednesday run an event called Owls in the Park, where fans get to meet their idols, have fun in the sun, and generally feel positive about the football club they love. This summer, that won’t be happening.
In a short statement, the club said: “[We] can confirm that this year’s Owls in the Park will not take place as planned. The postponement for 28 June follows discussions with the relevant local authorities.
“Wednesdayites can be assured that our popular community event will return and the whole team thank you for your continued support.”
Among the angry responses to this news, one fan said, “A new low from the owner. Terrible to remove a community event. My little nephew is a Wednesday fan and he does enjoy this type of thing. Turning young kids away from the club by the day.”
Another simply wrote, “Utterly pathetic,” while a third added, “An absolute disgrace. Regardless of all the faults, our community engagement throughout has often been really good and something to actually be proud of… Future fans of the club can’t even go and enjoy a fun day in the park.”
Others theorised as to why the event has been removed, writing: “Probably can’t afford to put the event on and it will all be the fans’ fault. When [Chansiri] leaves we will have our own party in the park.”
Another blasted the fact that this is the news to break the silence from the club, adding, “First bit of information the club has put out for ages. Fed up of scrolling for even a hint of good news.”
Sadly, right now, there doesn’t appear to be much in the way of good news for Owls fans; unless you count the fact that Barry Bannan is eager to get his new contract sorted out.

Owls transfer ban could be a blessing in disguise
In the wake of the news that Wednesday were under a three-window transfer fee ban, one famous supporter did see the bright side, sort of.
Chris McClure, also known as Steve Bracknall, posted: “An absolute disgrace. It’s going to be tough in the short term but we will always have a club. Chansiri doesn’t win in any shape or form long term. This will bring everyone together. The chips are well and truly down.”
It’s an interesting sentiment, really. The Owls may be facing a very bleak short-term future right now, but there is hope of things eventually getting better, though that will largely depend on how much longer Chansiri stays at the club.
Adam Shaw is eager to make Wednesday massive again, but he has to be given the chance to actually buy the club first; something that appears to be very difficult to facilitate given Chansiri’s apparent stubbornness when it comes to agreeing a price for the club.
The transfer ban and any other sanctions the club could be hit with may make things very difficult and even set the club back a few years, but the more intense the situation gets, the more likely it is that change will follow.
Whether Chansiri gives up or is forced out, Sheffield Wednesday is in desperate need of a fresh owner and a new direction. Sometimes, you have to break something to put it back together again, and as painful as that may be for Wednesday fans today, things should improve eventually.
