Sheffield Wednesday and Danny Rohl have had a mostly positive season, but it is fizzling out at the very end amid late play-off hopes.
The Owls lost 1-0 to Hull City late on in Saturday’s latest Championship fixture, but a draw to Cardiff City before that was equally damaging in terms of staying in the play-off picture ahead of the final run-in.

| 16 | 40 | 11 | 13 | 16 | 45 | 53 | -8 | 46 |
Not only that, but results also went against them in the Championship over the weekend, making it seem as though their play-off hopes are now all but ended with six games to go. It could mean a season of rebuilding at Hillsborough in the summer.
Rohl’s full-time reaction said a lot to Wednesday supporters. That came amid reports he is increasingly likely to leave. The German has been linked with a move to Southampton and his previous comments don’t instill confidence in him staying put.

Jobi McAnuff’s verdict on Danny Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday’s future
Last week, Sheffield Wednesday’s immediate future was plunged into doubt when it was revealed that the club chairman, Dejphon Chansiri, had not paid his players for the month of March.
Sky Sports’ Jobi McAnuff has been speaking on the club’s finances speaking on Football Daily’s 72+: The EFL Podcast. He said: “People will probably talk about the kind of money Championship players are on.
“But, regardless of that you expect to get paid, when you’re supposed to get paid and when that happens — it can really unsettle a squad.
“I’m not really sure how it happens at this stage of the season. As a business, you know exactly what those outgoings are going to be.
“There’s just so much going on behind the scenes. It’s a miracle, really, what Danny Rohl has done. I think again for Sheffield Wednesday fans, it’s a tale of what if.
“What if it was a well-run football club with the manager they’ve got now? One of the most highly-respected up-and-coming young coaches in the game.
“Despite everything that’s going on, he’s put out a team that competes. They have a style, and identity, and unfortunately it just seems that everything off the pitch is going to really affect what they can achieve on it.”
Aaron Paul asked: “He’ll be highly coveted in the summer, Danny Rohl?”
McAnuff: “Oh, 100%”

What is next for Sheffield Wednesday and Danny Rohl
As an EFL exclusive revealed recently, Rohl has a release clause in his Sheffield Wednesday contract. It is said to be worth near £5 million and for a club like Southampton, they could easily afford that sort of fee with parachute payments in the Championship next season.
With an exit looking likely, Sheffield Wednesday are already looking at Rohl replacements ahead of the summer, while the fans have also agreed on who is a perfect replacement for the 35-year-old, too.
It is said it would take a ‘miracle’ for Chansiri to actually sell up, but Owls fans are desperate for him to go, clearly. They are also desperate for a return to the top-flight of English football. It has been a long time since the likes of Paulo Di Canio fell in love with the club during Sheffield Wednesday’s Premier League era.
That reality seems far away with Chansiri in charge, which hampers their ability to retain their key players and staff. Rohl is perhaps the crowning jewel of the club at the moment, but their chances of keeping him appear to be slim to none.
