What Dejphon Chansiri has told Henrik Pedersen about Sheffield Wednesday’s season, ‘he has not’

Sheffield Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen has given a rare insight on Owls owner Dejphon Chansiri’s thoughts on the club, specifically their start to the campaign.

Wednesday are winless in the Championship, somehow avoiding being bottom of the league thanks to fierce rivals Sheffield United’s horrendous start. The Owls defied all odds and reached the third round of the Carabao Cup, but were knocked out by Grimsby Town on Tuesday.

Pedersen has a huge challenge on his hands to keep Wednesday’s heads above water on the pitch after taking over from Danny Rohl, losing key players Michael Smith and Josh Windass among others after unpaid wages and dealing with multiple transfer embargoes.

Now, the Dane has detailed a conversation he had with the Owls’ controversial owner Chansiri about the club’s season so far during his Portsmouth press conference.

Henrik Pedersen says Dejphon Chansiri knows Sheffield Wednesday are in a ‘difficult position’

Asked if Chansiri has been supportive after the club’s winless start in the Championship or if he’s complained, Pedersen said: “He has not complained at all.

“We are in regular contact and we all know it is a difficult position. This is not the question, the question is with what perspective we give this situation every day. I can see a lot of small things in the right direction and this is what we are working on.”

Wednesday’s protests have ramped up this season, with fans conducting boycotts and putting on numerous demonstrations home and away.

“I have said before I respect that behaviour from everyone, what they want,” he said. “I could hear the fans behind us in the game on Tuesday evening [against Grimsby Town].”

How have Sheffield Wednesday fans reacted to Dejphon Chansiri’s take on state of the club

Wednesday fans have given a mixed response to Pedersen’s revelations, but a majority have been worried by the owner’s stance.

“It’s concerning though, isn’t it,” one fan said. “It’s almost an admission of failure… I’m not blaming HP, but we have an owner that is accepting relegation and running the club on a mouse’s shoe string.”

Meanwhile, another said: “How could he complain, he’s put HP in a hopeless situation. It would be nothing short of a miracle to win a game.”

“Not like he can afford to sack him,” a third fan pointed out.

Pedersen has an increasingly small squad to compete with this year, with two more Wednesday players sidelined after the Grimsby clash. Seven players are unavailable for Saturday’s trip to Pompey.
