Whether Frank Lampard will stay at Coventry City when he’s ‘in the mix’ for Premier League jobs

EFL Analysis can exclusively reveal if Frank Lampard will see out the season at Coventry City if top flight clubs come calling.

Frank Lampard led Coventry City to the Championship play-off places last season in his first campaign as Sky Blues boss.

Unfortunately for the Chelsea legend, Sunderland beat Coventry in the semi-finals thanks to a dramatic last-minute Dan Ballard header.

After losing to eventual winners Sunderland, Lampard’s side have shown their intent to go one better this term after an undefeated and prolific start to the 2025/26 Championship season.

With Lampard already having managed at the top level with his former club, many believe he will return to Premier League management soon, and EFL Analysis can exclusively reveal how likely this is to come this season.

Exclusive: Frank Lampard plans to get Coventry City promoted

EFL Analysis exclusively shared following the play-off semi-final defeat, that Southampton were interested in hiring Lampard before appointing Will Still.

Lampard was happy to stay at Coventry amid the Saints’ attention, and the head coach will have been even happier to see the back of the transfer window.

After his star pupil was linked to Newcastle United, Lampard was desperate to keep Jack Rudoni, and he got his wish after Rudoni made ‘clear’ his intent to stay at Coventry this season.

With goal-machine Haji Wright also retained beyond deadline day by the Sky Blues, Lampard is primed to lead another top-six charge for Coventry this season.

EFL Analysis can exclusively reveal, thanks to information from our Chief Football Correspondent Graeme Bailey, that Lampard is set to finish the season at the CBS in favour of a mid-season Premier League job change.

Bailey said: “It depends what comes up, but he certainly won’t be on West Ham’s shortlist if and when Graham Potter departs.

“I’ve seen some speculation about that, but there’s absolutely no way David Sullivan would appoint Frank Lampard. That’s for sure.

“Lampard is fairly happy anyway. They kept Jack Rudoni and Haji Wright, which is what Lampard wanted.

“Coventry stuck with him, and while you can never say, it does seem his plan is to finish the season and to get Coventry promoted, obviously.

“I think his name will be in the mix if and when any more Premier League jobs come on the market, and we’ll have to wait and see. But it’s unlikely to be something he’s pushing for.”

Frank Lampard’s record as Coventry City manager

Lampard has proven himself to be the perfect replacement for now-Stoke City boss Mark Robins at the CBS Arena.

In his 39 matches in charge of Coventry, Lampard has overseen 20 wins, seven draws and 12 defeats.

This weekend, Coventry take on Norwich City, whose offer Lampard rejected in 2021 when the Canaries were in search of Daniel Farke’s replacement.

Lampard will fear facing Josh Sargent as the in-form Norwich striker hunts for his 50th Championship goal, but equally, the Sky Blues are in magnificent goalscoring form as the only second tier team to net double digits so far this season.

The Chelsea legend will be keen to better last season’s play-off semi-final heartache, but if he fails to do so and a Premier League club comes calling next summer, 2025/26 could be Lampard’s last at the CBS.
